How big is the gas tank on a Toyota Sequoia?
For each trim level and drivetrain option of the 2022 and 2023 Toyota Sequoia, the gas tank size remains the same. On the 2022 Sequoia, that tank size is 26.4 gallons whereas the 2023 model will be 22.5 gallons.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia’s shrinking fuel capacity is likely due to its new standard 3.5L i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo hybrid V6 engine and electric motor. This new hybrid powertrain greatly improves the Sequoia’s fuel efficiency from last year’s measly EPA-estimated 13/17/15 MPG city/highway/combined rating to a much more respectable 21/24/22 MPG. Therefore, while you can’t put as much gas into your 2023 Sequoia’s tank, you also won’t need as much.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia’s new gas tank size comes as a rare change when looking at past Sequoia models. The fuel tank had maintained a consistent 26.4-gallon capacity from 2005 to 2022, with models between 2001 and 2004 featuring a marginally smaller 26.1-gallon limit.
Don’t be spooked by the 2023 Toyota Sequoia’s historic gas tank size decrease, though. When calculating the SUV’s new average mileage, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia has a maximum range of495 miles combined city/highway driving on a full tank of gas. That’s 99 more miles than the 2022 Toyota Sequoia’s maximum range of 396 miles.

How to check your Toyota Sequoia’s gas tank size
If you’re not quite buying these measurements of your current (or future) Sequoia model’s gas tank size, there are a few ways you can confirm the number on your own.
Check the owner’s manual
The most straightforward way to determine your SUV’s gas tank size is to look up its “fuel tank capacity” (or a similar phrase) in your owner’s manual. Unlike online resources, you can trust your manual to have the correct specs and information for your specific vehicle.
Measure your gas tank
Believe it or not, you can calculate your Sequoia’s gas volume with a measuring tape and a calculator. All you have to do is multiply the width, length, and height of the tank, then divide that number by 231 to convert the cubic inches into gallons.
Use the fuel pump’s measurements
Okay, this method is not for the faint of heart, but it’s a fairly easy one to do: drive until your Sequoia’s “E” light comes on, then see how much fuel the pump measures when you fill it up. This won’t be a completely accurate measurement, but it will give you a general idea of how big your gas tank is. Don’t drive too long on an empty tank, though!
