What it does

The Ford F-150’s body is made from high-strength aluminum alloy, which allows it to be both durable and aerodynamic. The Sport package puts a trendy twist on the truck’s classic, rugged look.
Subtle details can make a huge difference. The Sport package equips the F-150 with small details like a chrome exhaust tip, body-color front and rear bumpers, and a “SPORT” box-side decal.
The Sport package also offers some more noticeable upgrades. The standard F-150 comes with 17-inch silver steel wheels, while the Sport package offers 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. The upgraded wheels don’t necessarily provide any performance boosts, but they do look pretty slick.
Interior-wise, both the XLT and Lariat get a unique finish that’s more distinguished than the base interior. The interior upholstery also gets a makeover with the Sport package. The XLT comes with sport cloth, while the higher Lariat trim offers a leather upholstery.

Is the Sport Appearance package worth it?

The value of the Sport Appearance package will vary depending on your preferences. If you’re looking for a tough truck to get a job done and don’t care much about aesthetics, the package isn’t worth an extra couple thousand dollars.
If you want a more luxurious feel but need to stay at the lower end of the trim range, the XLT with the Sport Appearance package is still more than $10,000 cheaper than the Lariat on its own. Once you move up towards adding the Sport Appearance package to the Lariat, the decision gets a bit tougher.
The Lariat trim with the Sport Appearance package, the King Ranch trim, and the Platinum trim are all relatively close in price, and all cost around $60,000 and above.
If you’re thinking about adding the Sport Appearance package to the Lariat, it might be a good idea to look into the King Ranch or Platinum trims. Purchasing the Lariat with the Sport package means you’ll be paying almost the same amount as you would for the King Ranch or Platinum trims without packages.
You might find that the upgraded features on the upper trims are superior to a lower trim with an appearance package.

Sport Appearance package vs. Chrome Appearance package

Looking for an appearance upgrade but worried the Sport package isn’t quite your style? Available on the XL, XLT, and King Ranch trims, the Chrome Appearance package offers similar features to the Sport package in a slightly different style.
This package ranges from $895 to $2,205 depending on your trim level. Here’s what Ford’s Chrome Appearance package will get you.
XL Chrome Appearance package (starting at $895)
  • 17-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels
  • Chrome front and rear bumpers
  • Fog lights
XLT Chrome Appearance package (starting at $1,895)
  • 18-inch chrome aluminum wheels
  • Chrome 2-bar grille
  • Chrome exhaust tip
  • Chrome exterior door and tailgate handles
  • Chrome tow hooks
  • Chrome step bars
  • Body-color bezel on side doors
King Ranch Chrome Appearance package (starting at $2,205)
  • 20-inch chrome aluminum wheels
  • All-season tires
  • Chrome bumpers
  • Chrome door handles
  • Chrome tow hooks
  • Chrome skull caps on exterior mirrors

The bottom line

The Sport Appearance package is worth it if you need to stick to the lower XLT trim but still want a luxurious feel.
If you’re considering purchasing the Lariat and want to add the Sport Appearance package, it’s a good idea to check out the extra features you’d get with a higher trim like the King Ranch or Platinum. They’re similar in price to what you’d pay for the Lariat with the package.
