Will Progressive raise your rates?

Like all insurance companies, Progressive can only increase your rates
upon renewal
Some of the reasons your rate might go up with Progressive include:
  • New violations or tickets
  • New accidents
  • New address
  • New vehicle on policy
  • New driver on policy
  • Inflation
According to our survey, 64% of drivers chose to renew their policy with Progressive
Remember:  it’s important to understand that insurance companies often make changes to the way they price their policies, and it’s normal to experience some fluctuation over time even if there are no changes to your driver profile.

Does Progressive resolve claims fast?

Progressive’s website guarantees that they resolve all
car insurance claims
within 14 days—but some customers reported dissatisfaction with the claims process.
During this period, the insurer will investigate the claim, assess the damages or injuries, and determine the liability and coverage details to offer a settlement or denial promptly. Meeting this timeline helps ensure efficient and timely support for policyholders, reducing stress and delays associated with the claims process.
64% of our survey respondents who have a policy from Progressive reported having filed a claim. These customers rated Progressive a 3.9/5 for their claims process and subsequent resolutions. This indicated to us that some customers were dissatisfied with Progressive’s claims process.
However, compared to the national average score of 3.54/5, Progressive ranked higher than a large number of other companies in our survey. We ranked Progressive 11th overall when compared to companies of similar size when examining how verified customers reported their claims process experience with Progressive.

Progressive car insurance discounts

Progressive offers
a wide range of discounts
, but some customers were dissatisfied with their savings.
Car insurance discounts
are a crucial tool for drivers looking to save money by reducing the overall premium cost based on various factors such as safe driving history, low mileage, or bundling multiple policies with the same insurer. Installing safety features in your vehicle or opting for usage-based insurance can also lead to additional savings.
Progressive’s discounts are one of the primary cited reasons for positive reviews. 23% of surveyed drivers mentioned discounts among the things they liked about Progressive.
Some of the common discounts Progressive provides include:
  • Safe driver discount: Rewards drivers with a clean driving history and no recent accidents or traffic violations.
  • Multi-car discount: Provides savings when you insure more than one vehicle on the same policy.
  • Multi-policy discount: Offers a discount when you bundle your car insurance with other policies, such as home insurance.
  • Snapshot discount:
Available through their usage-based insurance program, Snapshot, which rewards safe driving habits and low mileage.
  • Good student discount:
Gives lower rates to student drivers who maintain good grades in school.
  • Continuous insurance discount: Rewards customers who have maintained continuous car insurance coverage without any lapses.
  • Sign online discount: Provides savings for policyholders who sign their documents and policies online.
Keep in mind that discounts offered by insurance companies can change over time, and new discounts may have been introduced since our last update. To get the most up-to-date and accurate information about Progressive's current discounts, it's best to visit their official website or contact a Progressive representative directly.

Progressive coverage options

Car insurance coverage requirements vary based on individual circumstances and state regulations. Here are some of the
common types of car insurance
that Progressive offers its customers:
Liability insurance
: Drivers can buy
bodily injury liability
and
property damage liability coverage
as required by their state to cover claims for other parties in at-fault car accidents.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage:
If another driver’s liability insurance isn’t sufficient to cover your claim, UM/UIM helps to provide quick coverage for medical bills and car repairs after a car accident.
Comprehensive coverage:
If your vehicle is stolen or damaged by something other than an accident, such as fire, severe weather, or vandalism, comprehensive coverage offers protection.
Collision coverage:
Collision insurance pays for damage to your car from any type of collision, from a multi-car pileup to a guardrail crash or single-car rollover.
Personal injury protection (PIP):
Some states require this no-fault insurance to cover medical bills, lost wages, and other health-related costs for you and your passengers following a car accident.
Medical payments (MedPay):
Like PIP, MedPay covers hospital bills after a car accident for you and your passengers.
Loan/lease payoff: Similar to
gap insurance
, Progressive’s loan/lease coverage will cover the difference between what you owe on a stolen or totaled financed vehicle and its actual worth, up to 25% of ACV.
Rental reimbursement:
If your car is in the shop following a covered loss, rental car reimbursement coverage offsets the cost of a temporary replacement vehicle.
Roadside assistance:
Progressive’s 24/7 roadside assistance includes towing, winching, jump-starts, battery charges, flat tire changes, and locksmith charges.
Trip interruption coverage: This add-on for customers with roadside assistance pays up to $500 for lodging, transportation, and food if your car breaks down more than 100 miles from home.
Custom parts and equipment (CPE) coverage: CPE coverage offers protection for car mods, typically up to a $5,000 limit.
Pet injury coverage: If your pet is injured in an accident while riding in your car, pet injury coverage will pay up to $1,000 in vet bills.
Rideshare coverage:
Drivers for rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft must add this endorsement to their policy to cover the period when logged into the rideshare app and waiting for a ride.

Progressive’s additional tools and services

Progressive offers several additional tools and services for car insurance to enhance the overall customer experience and provide added benefits. Here are some common additional tools and services that Progressive has offered in the past:
  • Snapshot®: Snapshot is a usage-based insurance program that allows policyholders to potentially earn discounts based on their driving habits. Customers can use a mobile app or a device installed in their car to monitor their driving behavior and receive personalized rates based on how safely they drive.
  • Name Your Price® Tool: This tool helps customers find car insurance that fits their budget. Customers can input the price they want to pay and then receive a range of coverage options available within that budget.
  • Coverage Checker®: Progressive's Coverage Checker helps customers understand their current coverage and identify potential gaps. It provides personalized recommendations for coverage options based on the customer's needs.
  • Deductible Savings BankSM: This program rewards customers with $50 for every six months they go without an accident or violation, up to a maximum of $500. The savings can be used toward a deductible if they need to make a claim.
  • Accident forgiveness:
Progressive's Accident Forgiveness program prevents a rate increase after a policyholder's first at-fault accident if they qualify.
  • Bundle and Save: Progressive offers discounts for customers who bundle their auto insurance with other policies, such as home insurance or renters insurance.
  • Mobile app: Progressive has
    a mobile app
that allows customers to manage their policies, view their ID cards, make payments, file claims, and access other services on the go.
  • Online claims filing: Customers can file and track claims conveniently through Progressive's website or mobile app.
Keep in mind that these additional tools and services may vary by location and policy type. To get specific information about what Progressive currently offers in your area, visit their official website or get in touch with their customer service.
