Jerry
experts conducted one of the nation's most extensive reviews to collect car insurance information over 18 months. We surveyed over 18,000 policyholders from all 50 states, asking them about their experience with their insurance company’s customer service, renewal process, claims handling, and more.

So, is Travelers a good insurance company?

Yes—customer reviews suggest that Travelers is one of the top insurance providers in the US.
Our experts analyzed more than 300 real customer reviews from Travelers customers. They found that of those reviews, 90.5% of respondents had positive things to say about the carrier, while just 2.1% were negative and the remainder were neutral.
Compared to the national average of 64% positive reviews and 18.54% negative reviews, it’s clear that Travelers ranks well above average, and customers are highly satisfied with the products and services from Travelers.
The good: Positive Travelers insurance reviews talked about their excellent customer service and affordable pricing. Customers also enjoyed:
  • Robust coverage options
  • Extensive list of discounts
  • Easy buying process
The other side: Although many Travelers customers lock in a good price for their policy, some don’t. Negative reviews revolved around high premiums, especially if drivers didn’t qualify for discounts.
We asked policyholders to rate Travelers on its affordability, claims experience, customer service, and renewal process.

Travelers car insurance discounts

Discounts are a great (and easy) option for drivers looking to save on car insurance. Luckily, Travelers offers a wide variety of
car insurance discounts
that can help you save up to 15% on your rates.
Here’s a breakdown of the available discounts with Travelers Insurance:
  • Multi-policy discount: Bundle multiple insurance policies, such as
    auto and home insurance
, can help you save up to 13% on your auto insurance rates.
  • Multi-car discount: If you have more than one car at the same address, insure it under the same policy to be eligible for this discount.
  • Homeownership discount: If you’re a homeowner, you may be eligible for a discount on your car insurance.
  • Safe driver discount: Travelers believes safe driving should be rewarded—if you’ve had no accidents, violations, or major comprehensive claims for the past three to five years, you could save with a
    safe driver discount
    .
  • Continuous insurance discount: If you’ve held car insurance continuously with Travelers with no gaps in coverage, you may be eligible for a reduced rate.
  • Hybrid/electric discount: If you own or lease a hybrid car, you could save on your Travelers auto insurance.
  • New car discount: When you purchase a new car or own a vehicle that’s less than three years old, you may qualify to save on your premium.
  • EFT,
    Pay in Full
, and Good Payer discounts: You can save based on how you choose to pay.
  • Early quote discount: If you’re new to Travelers and get a quote before your current policy expires, you may be eligible for a discount on your Travelers auto insurance policy.
  • Good student discount
: Drivers who are enrolled in high school or college and maintain a “B” average or better may qualify for a discount on their car insurance rates.
  • Student away at school discount
: If one of your dependents is away at school at least 100 miles away and won’t be driving, you could qualify for a lower rate.
  • Driver training discount: Complete an approved driver education course to sharpen your driving skills, and it could help you save on your premium.
Note: A complete list of discounts may not be available online, so call a Travelers agent directly and ask about what discounts they offer.

Travelers coverage options

As with any insurance company, Travelers offers basic coverages needed to meet your state’s car insurance requirements and a range of add-on coverages for drivers who want more protection.
Here’s a breakdown of Travelers car insurance options to fulfill minimum coverage requirements:
  • Liability car insurance
    : Liability consists of
    bodily injury liability
    and
    property damage liability
and is required by most states. If you’re involved in an at-fault car accident, liability will pay for the injuries suffered by others and any damage your vehicle caused to personal property.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
: If you’re involved in an accident with a driver who doesn’t have insurance (or doesn’t have enough insurance), this coverage will help cover the cost of your repairs and medical bills.
  • Personal injury protection (PIP)
: Also called no-fault insurance, this is a mandatory coverage in some states. It pays for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages regardless of who’s at fault.
  • Medical payments (MedPay) coverage
: Similar to PIP, MedPay provides recoupment or partial recoupment as a supplement to health insurance if you and your passengers are injured in a car accident.
Travelers also offers other insurance products that can provide more comprehensive coverage on the road:
  • Collision coverage
: If you get into an accident with another vehicle or stationary object, or if your car rolls over, collision insurance will cover the cost of repairs or replacement.
  • Comprehensive coverage
: This covers most things collusion doesn’t—theft, fire, vandalism, and other situations where your vehicle is damaged but not in an accident with another vehicle or object.
  • Loan/lease or gap insurance
: If your car is financed or leased and is declared a total loss, gap insurance bridges the gap between the actual cash value of the vehicle and the amount you still owe on your loan or lease.
  • Rental car reimbursement coverage
: If your car needs to stay in the repair shop for more than a day after an accident, rental reimbursement coverage will help you pay for a rental car while you wait for the repairs.
  • Roadside assistance
: Also called towing and labor coverage, this insurance covers multiple roadside emergencies such as a flat tire, dead battery, or mechanical troubles.
  • New car replacement
: If you total a brand-new car within the first five years of ownership, this coverage ensures you can replace it with the same make/model.
  • Accident forgiveness
: If you have an otherwise
    clean driving record
, accident forgiveness can prevent a major increase in your car insurance rate after you get into your first accident. Travelers’ Responsible Driver Plan even offers minor violation forgiveness!
  • Rideshare coverage
: Only available for rideshare drivers in Illinois and Colorado, this coverage protects you while you’re on the job and stops when you’re driving for personal reasons.
  • Named non-owner
: If you frequently drive a car that you don’t own (i.e., you rent or borrow one), this policy offers liability coverage at a lower cost.
In addition to the additional coverages mentioned above, Travelers also offers an optional telematics program called IntelliDrive. This program monitors your driving habits and performance over 90 days via a smartphone app and then adjusts your insurance rate based on how well you drive. As an incentive, you can save on your car insurance policy’s first term just by enrolling. Upon renewal, safe driving habits can earn you a discount of up to 30%, while riskier driving habits could result in you paying a higher premium.
Finally, Travelers also offers a range of non-auto insurance products, from
homeowners insurance
and
renters insurance
to umbrella insurance, pet insurance, and wedding/event coverage.
