Comprehensive Dairyland Car Insurance Review

With over 70 years of insurance experience serving 48 states, Dairyland is committed to making insurance easy by providing affordable coverage to drivers. Although Dairyland may not be the most popular insurance provider, its rankings put it high on the list of the top car insurance companies of 2023, according to first-hand reviews analyzed by Jerry’s research team.
Jerry

After reviewing the data from over 120 insurance providers, our experts ranked Dairyland 5th compared to similar-sized and popular companies.
Here’s a breakdown of how our verified Dairyland policyholders ranked their insurance provider:

We surveyed over 18,000 policyholders from all 50 states, asking them about their experience with their insurance company’s customer service, renewal process, claims handling, and more.

So, is Dairyland a good insurance company?

Based on reviews, a resounding yes.
Our experts analyzed almost 400 real customer reviews from Dairyland customers and found that of those reviews, 82.75% of respondents had positive things to say about the company, while just 3.5% gave negative reviews.
Compared to the national average of 64% positive reviews and 18.54% negative reviews, it’s clear that Dairyland ranks well above the average, suggesting that customers are satisfied with an auto insurance policy with Dairyland.
Dairyland has specialized in providing affordable insurance for
high-risk drivers
since its founding. Drivers who typically can’t get coverage elsewhere due to serious or repeated traffic violations can find affordable auto and motorcycle insurance with Dairyland.
The good: Positive Dairyland insurance reviews focused on affordable policy pricing, excellent customer service, and flexible plan features. Customers also enjoyed:
  • Easy application process
  • Mobile app accessibility
  • Fast response times
The other side: Negative reviews focused on a lack of discounts, expensive rates for certain drivers, and limited availability in specific states.
We asked policyholders to rate Dairyland on its affordability, claims experience, customer service, and renewal process.

Is Dairyland car insurance expensive?

Dairyland focuses on providing car insurance for high-risk drivers who can’t find insurance elsewhere—but that does mean that the insurance can be expensive. High-risk policies cost more than insurance for drivers with a clean record, so Dairyland’s prices tend to be higher than average.
That said, the prices may still be fair for a high-risk policy. According to our survey results, 29.5% of all surveyed Dairyland reviews mentioned cost. Of those reviews, a whopping 81.9% had positive sentiments toward insurance costs, while just 13.8% were negative.
Compared to other insurance companies of a similar size, Dairyland ranked 6th overall in terms of policy cost satisfaction and scored 4.5 stars out of 5.0—substantially higher than the national average of 3.81. Here’s how Dairyland compared to the other companies in our study:

Will Dairyland raise your rates?

Like all insurance providers, Dairyland can only increase your premium when your policy is
up for renewal
Some reasons you may see an increase in your insurance rates with Dairyland include:
  • New violations or tickets
  • New accidents
  • New location
  • New vehicle on a policy
  • New driver on a policy
  • Inflation
  • Age
According to our survey, 69.5% of drivers with a Dairyland auto insurance policy chose to renew at the end of their term.
Remember: Insurance providers often change how they price their policies, meaning it’s normal to see some variation over time—even if your driver profile remains unchanged.

Does Dairyland resolve claims fast?

Dairyland doesn’t specify a timeframe for resolving claims, but in general, most claims are resolved within seven to 14 days. However, the severity and complexity of the case can interfere with processing time, leading to a longer resolution period. Insurance providers legally have 30 days to assess your claim.
If you’re involved in an accident and need to submit a claim, you can do so online or by phone.
  • Dairyland customers: Log in to your Dairyland account to submit a claim online,
  • Non-customers: Speak to a Dairyland representative at 1-800-334-0090.
Of the respondents in our survey, 69.7% reported having filed a claim with Dairyland. Although they were ranked 12th for claims processing compared to other insurance companies of similar size, the 2.2 out of 5.0 rating for claims and resolutions suggests most Dairyland customers aren’t satisfied with the company’s claims processing, and there’s room for improvement.

Dairyland coverage options

As with any insurer, Dairyland offers basic insurance coverage to help you meet your state’s car insurance requirements—but for drivers who want more coverage, they also provide a range of add-on insurance products for more protection.
Here’s a breakdown of Dairyland’s offering to fulfill state minimum coverages:

Dairyland’s additional tools and services

If you opt for more protection, Dairyland also provides these coverage options:
  • Comprehensive insurance
: Covers the cost of repairs for damage resulting from severe weather, theft, wildlife, flooding, and more.
  • Collision insurance
: Collision coverage will pay for your damages if you hit another car or stationary object.
  • Gap insurance
: If your car is totaled in an accident, gap insurance bridges the gap between the
    actual cash value
of your car and the remaining balance on your loan.
  • Rental reimbursement
: If your car is in the shop for repairs after an approved claim, this coverage can help repay you for the cost of the rental vehicle up to certain limits.
  • Physical damage plus: This ensures that original manufacturer replacement parts are used to repair your motorcycle.
  • Roadside assistance: Having
    towing and labor coverage
helps cover the costs of tire changes, towing, and more if your car or bike runs into trouble on the road.
  • Replacement cost coverage: This applies to motorcycles three years old or newer. This coverage pays for a new bike if yours is deemed a loss.
  • Special equipment coverage: This coverage will replace any special features in your vehicle, such as mods or aftermarket parts.
  • Non-owner insurance
: If you frequently rent or borrow a car that isn’t yours, you can add this policy for liability coverage at reduced rates.
Remember that some of these coverages are only available for motorcycle insurance plans. For example, trip interruption coverage pays for food, lodging, transportation, and other expenses if you’re in a motorcycle accident more than 100 miles from home.
