The Discovery Sport is the cheapest Land Rover you can buy

Land Rovers are luxury vehicles and as such, typically come with some expensive price tags. While the 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport isn’t cheap by any means, the $43,300 starting MSRP for the base S trim makes it the cheapest Land Rover vehicle on the market.
And it still comes with a wealth of standard features that crank up the luxe and drive feel. The 2023 Discovery Sport S comes with a performance-focused 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine giving 246 horsepower through All-Wheel Drive and Land Rover’s All Terrain Progress Control
The under-the-hood is ready to impress, but what about the interior? Genuine leather upholstery will cradle you through your commutes and throw a hearty splash of luxury over the whole vehicle. You’ll also find unique standard safety features like Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter. And to keep you and your passengers comfortable, the newest Discovery Sport S allows for two-zone climate control
To get additional features like Blind Spot Assist and an Interactive Driver Display, you’ll need to upgrade to the Discovery Sport SE trim. If you’re looking for specialty branding and dynamic technology features, check out the R-Dynamic S and SE trims. Here’s the pricing for each of those:
  • Land Rover Discovery R-Dynamic S: $45,100
  • Land Rover Discovery Sport SE: $46,800
  • Land Rover Discovery R-Dynamic SE: $48,600

How much cheaper is the Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport MSRP is similar to some of Land Rover’s current vehicles and leagues cheaper than others. Here are the starting prices for Land Rover’s current lineup:
  • 2023 Range Rover Evoque: $45,000
  • 2023 Land Rover Defender: $53,500
  • 2023 Land Rover Discovery: $56,600
  • 2023 Range Rover Velar: $60,300
  • 2023 Range Rover Sport: $83,000
  • 2023 Range Rover: $104,500
The Range Rover Evoque is quite close in price to the Land Rover Discovery Sport and may be a good option if you prefer its sleeker look.

How to find an affordable Land Rover

Land Rovers are expensive, there’s no doubt about that. But there are measures you can take to keep the costs down as much as possible, so keep these tips in mind as you shop:
  • Stick to the base model. It’s easy for prices to climb the second you step out from the base model of a Land Rover. If you don’t need the powered liftgate and LED headlights, the base model will always be your most inexpensive option.
  • Avoid unnecessary upgrades. In that same vein, keep your upgrades to a minimum. A perforated leather steering wheel and specialty branding sound awesome, but they won’t necessarily make your driving experience much better.
  • Go used. Scout out used Land Rover models rather than going for the newest. If you stick to relatively recent past years, you’ll likely get many of the same features and styling as the newly manufactured Land Rovers.
  • Look for dealer incentives. Dealerships often initiate special deals and financing offers that can make a sizable dent in the end sale price.

The best Land Rover Discovery Sport competitors you can buy for under $50,000

For the Land Rover and Land Rover only crowd, the Discovery Sport will be the cheapest option for 2023. If you’re willing to branch out to other luxury SUVs, consider these alternatives all coming in under $50,000:
  • Lexus NX:
The 2023 Lexus NX is spacious and comfortable and hits 203 horsepower with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for a base price of $39,755. Lexus has a strong history of reliability, so your money should go a long way.
  • BMW X1:
BMW’s 2023 X1 starts at $39,595, only comes with one trim level, and hits both performance and luxury in its design.
  • Cadillac XT6: For $49,990, the 2023 Cadillac XT6 comes packed with standard features even in the base trim including a premium audio system, heated front seats, lane-keeping assists, automatic emergency braking, and more.
  • Infiniti QX60:
This 2022 model is a three-row SUV that feels high-quality from the moment you slide in your seat. Premium materials and a smooth ride leave you feeling luxuriously comfortable.
