What Is the Best Cadillac SUV?

The best Cadillac SUV is the Escalade, the most popular and well known of Cadillac’s SUVs. But don’t miss the family-friendly XT6 and the fuel-efficient XT5!

The Cadillac Escalade is the most well-known and popular Cadillac SUV, and by far the most powerful and exciting. It’s also our pick for the best Cadillac SUV.
Of course, there are still plenty of Cadillac’s other SUV offerings that stand out in their own rights. Whether you want one of the beefiest full-size luxury SUVs on the market or a roomy-yet-compact crossover SUV, there’s a model that’s perfect for you and your family.
And
Jerry
, the

Cadillac car insurance cost
(or insurance for any other vehicle)!

The best Cadillac SUV overall: Escalade

Starting price: $79,440
Number of seats: 7-8
J.D. Power rating: 82
A category mainstay since 1998, the
Cadillac Escalade
is the ultimate American full-size luxury SUV. It’s Cadillac’s upgrade of the legendary Suburban—arguably the grandfather of SUVs.
And luxury is what you get. You can find upscale details and state-of-the-art car tech everywhere you look, including fine leather, genuine wood trim, a massive 38-inch curved OLED screen, a Super Cruise hands-free driving system (production delayed by microchip shortage), HD surround-vision camera, and many more automatic safety and convenience features.
And while the 6.2-liter V8 engine doesn’t dazzle with fuel economy, it gets a fantastic 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm. Drivers looking for a more efficient option can consider the smaller 3.0-liter turbodiesel I6—it won’t go as fast, but it does improve fuel efficiency by about 7 mpg. Of course, you’ll have to pay for diesel gas, which is more expensive than regular these days.
Higher trims continue to dazzle with Magnetic Ride Control suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, and Air Ride adaptive suspension.
Of course, it’s not the most budget-friendly option, but if you’re planning on buying a Caddy, you probably already knew that.

The best Cadillac SUV to buy used: 2013 Escalade

Price range: $24,011 to $30,284
Number of seats: 7-8
J.D. Power rating: 79
If you’re really wanting to drive a muscle-bound Escalade but you don’t want to spend a fortune, why not buy used? In particular, look for one from 2013, which is arguably one of the best years the model has had.
The 2013 Cadillac Escalade was ranked #2 in US News’ Luxury Large SUV category, and #1 Best Full-Size SUV for Families. It gets only about 1 mpg less than the current model, and there’s even an available Hybrid that can get 20/23 city/highway mpg

The best Cadillac SUV for families: XT6

Starting price: $49,890
Number of seats: 7
J.D. Power rating: 78
For families that need their capability, comfort, and cargo space to come in at a more affordable price, check out the midsize XT6.
The XT6 is powered by a 237 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4 on the base Luxury model. The top two trims sport a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 310 horsepower. Fuel economy is average for the XT6, but even the model with the lowest fuel rating—the AWD with its 18/25 mpg—is still acceptable.
If you love the roomy interior of the Escalade, you’ll be happy with how the XT6 shapes up. It has plenty of room between the three rows of seats, while many other SUVs in the midsize segment only offer cramped, uncomfortable, and hard-to-access third rows.
The XT6 is also theoretically available with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, but these models are also seeing significant delays due to the ongoing computer chip supply crisis. But even without the highest level of robot brain, the safety features included in the Cadillac Smart System are plenty for someone who’s fine with just driving while they’re driving.

The best Cadillac SUV for off-roading: Escalade

What can we say, it’s back! While off-roading really isn’t something that Cadillac is expecting you to do with their SUVs, they do make the Escalade plenty capable for off-road driving, especially when equipped with the right wheels or even a suspension lift.
If you’re looking for a
GMC
,
Chevrolet
, or Cadillac off-roader, you’ll have better luck looking in the trucks category, for vehicles like the GMC Sierra or the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.

The best Cadillac SUV for fuel economy: XT5

Starting price: $44,290
Number of seats: 5
J.D. Power rating: 78
The best Cadillac SUV for fuel economy is, naturally, the smallest: the
Cadillac XT5
, a luxury SUV/crossover that exists somewhere between the compact and midsize categories, while functioning commercially as a compact crossover SUV.
It sports better cargo space than most competitors, gets great gas mileage with a turbocharged I-4 engine, and offers plenty of power when equipped with the beefy V6 option. Here’s how the I-4 version of the XT5 measures up to the other top Cadillac SUVs we’ve mentioned in terms of fuel economy:
  • 2022 Cadillac XT5: 22 city/29 highway/24 combined mpg
  • 2022 Cadillac XT6: 18 city/25 highway/21 combined mpg
  • 2022 Cadillac Escalade: 15 city/20 highway/17 combined mpg
You’ll only have 1000 pounds of towing capacity with the smaller engine, but if you just need to haul a bunch of cargo in the back every once in a while, the Cadillac XT5 is a fantastic little SUV, delivering plenty of power while saving you money at the pump.
