The Audi Q8 Black Optic Package is an optional package for the 2023 Premium trim that brings upgrades, like spoked wheels, exclusive exterior finishes, and roof rails, to the table—giving the base Q8 model a seriously sporty upgrade.
Only drivers of the base Q8 (aka the Premium trim) will benefit from the Black Optic Package—as it’s not available for the Premium Plus or Prestige trim levels.

The Black Optic Package adds the following four upgrades to the Audi Q8 Premium:

Simply put, the Black Optic Package gives the Q8 a sportier edge for drivers who like a little more adventure. But while its exclusive body color and black exterior trim may satisfy your aesthetic preferences, you’re not just paying for a different paint job.
You’re also getting enhanced functionality with the addition of the Black Optic’s roof rails—-which, when coupled with its standard all-season tires, help add an air of adventure-readiness to this otherwise refined luxury SUV.

The Black Optic Package doesn’t add a ton of new features to the base Q8—but for the price, it might just be worth it. According to Car & Driver, you get the most bang for your buck when you purchase the Premium trim and add select packages to spruce it up, and that recommendation includes opting for the Black Optic Package.
But it’s not the only package you can purchase for the Premium trim.
Black Optic Package vs. Towing Package
Like the Black Optic Package, the Towing Package is an optional, feature-based package that enhances the Q8 Premium for an extra price. With the Towing Package, you’ll be able to (you guessed it) unlock the Q8’s full towing capacity of 7,700 pounds.
This package adds a hitch receiver and towing seven-pin connector to the rear of the Q8 Premium. And—like the Black Optic Package—it costs just $750 to add. Weekend adventurers may be inclined to purchase both the Black Optic and Towing Packages for maximum cargo hauling.
Black Optic Package vs. Convenience Package
The other optional package for the Q8 Premium is the Convenience Package, which adds $1,950 to the price of your Audi Q8 in exchange for:
- Audi adaptive cruise assist with lane guidance
- A surround-view camera system with virtual 360 views
- A wireless mobile charging pad and signal booster
- A heated steering wheel
Black Optic Package vs. S-Line Plus Package
The S-Line Plus Package is, essentially, an upgraded version of the Black Optic Package that can only be added to higher trim levels (aka the Premium Plus or Prestige). With the S-Line Plus Package, the graphite gray exterior finish is swapped for a bi-color finish, and you’ll get an even bigger set of 22-inch V-spoke wheels.
Other than that, the S-Line Plus and Black Optic Packages are more or less the same, right down to the roof rails.
The bottom line
If you’re buying a Q8 Premium because it’s at the top of your budget, the Black Optic Package may or may not be worth the extra $750—but if you’ve got some room in your budget to spare, it’s likely a worthwhile addition to your vehicle.
Even adding all three of the optional premium packages would still run you less than the next-highest trim level! Whether you want to maintain the sporty integrity of the crossover SUV segment or just value souped-up appearances, the Black Optic Package is an affordable add-on that enhances the Q8 Premium without breaking the bank.
