The Black Optic package for the 2023 Audi Q3 is all about style. Available on both Q3 trims, the appearance package will set you back $1,700, but it adds that hot blackout contrast that’s on everyone’s wish list at the moment.
An Audi Q3 looks a lot like a miniature Q8. But despite its smaller stature, the Q3 lacks nothing for style. But if you’re looking to really turn some heads, you should check out the Q3 Black Optic package. From matte-black wheels to high-gloss black contrast trim, it’ll take your Q3 from basic to breathtaking in no time. But is it worth the added cost—both in upfront price and long-term car insurance
? To help you decide if the Black Optic package is right for you, we’ve put together this guide to tell you what it is, what it does, how much it costs, and whether it’s worth your money.
What is the Audi Q3 Black Optic package?
Put simply—it’s a blackout package. You also get wheels that are one inch larger than the standard, but, otherwise, it’s all about the looks.
So, let’s see what you get!
What’s included
The Black Optic package includes 5 appearance upgrades:
19-inch double-arm design wheels with matte titanium finish
High-gloss black exterior elements
Sport front seats with S embossing and contrast stitching
Technically, the standard Q3 already comes equipped with all-season tires, so that’s not really an addition. But, Audi
includes it in their list, so we’ve included it here, too. RECOMMENDEDNo spam or unwanted phone calls · No long forms
What it does
Like most appearance packages, it doesn’t really do anything. But does everything on an SUV have to be about use and utility? We think not—especially not when you’re talking about a ute as stylish as the Audi Q3.
So, to revise: The Audi Q3 Black Optic package looks great, that’s what it does! Plus, the sport front seats add a bit of support to keep you in place while negotiating high-speed curves.
How much is a 2023 Q3 Black Optic package?
No matter which trim or engine option you choose, the Q3 Black Optic package will cost you an additional $1,700.

Is the Black Optic package worth it?
It really depends on your budget, and how much stock you put in looks. If you have the money to spend on a strictly appearance-oriented add-on, then, yes, it’s totally worth it. However, if you’re on a budget that won’t allow you to step up to the Q3 Premium Plus
and are more interested in a functional add-on, you should go for the Convenience package instead. The options included in the Convenience package are already standard on the Premium Plus, so why not put the money towards that sleek, black styling? Stepping up to the Premium Plus trim also opens the availability of the Technology package, which you’re going to love if you’re a techy!
Black Optic package vs. Convenience package
Unlike the Black Optic package, the Convenience package does more than just look good. It adds a healthy dose of luxury utility features to your Q3 to make driving easier and more comfortable, including the following:
Audi advanced key with hands-free power tailgate
Auto-dimming, frameless interior mirror with compass
Auto-dimming power-folding exterior mirrors with memory
LED interior lighting package
SiriusXM® All Access service (3-month subscription)
The Convenience package is only available on the base Premium Trim, as its options are all standard equipment for the Premium Plus. Adding it to your Q3 Premium will cost you $1,400, but the upgraded security system could help you save on your comprehensive insurance
! That said, if you add both the Convenience package and the Black Optic package to your Q3 Premium, you could get a substantially more luxurious and stylish SUV for about $2,000 less than it would take to step to the Premium Plus trim. It’s certainly an option to consider if you’re looking to stack up the luxe while staying within a set budget.
Black Optic package vs. Technology package
If you do choose to step up to the Premium Plus trim, you unlock the optional Technology package. This aptly-named group of options adds the following to your Audi Q3 Premium Plus:
Audi Connect ® PLUS 6-month trial
Audi MMI ® Navigation plus
Audi virtual cockpit plus
SONOS ® premium sound system with 3D sound
Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto
This package is a bit more expensive at $2,700. Whether it’s worth it will really depend on just how tech-heavy you want your SUV to be. Audi’s navigation system is nice, but we all already have access to countless navigation apps on our phones. They don’t, however, offer traffic sign recognition, so there’s a clear advantage.
You’ll already have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration in your Audi, so you’ll have to ask yourself if it’s worth the investment to be able to connect wirelessly. Lastly, the sound system, Audi Connect, and the virtual cockpit carry inherent value, but whether they’re worth almost an extra $3000 is really going to depend on each driver’s technology preferences.
The bottom line
If you have the money to burn, yes. Who doesn’t want to turn heads when they drive down the road? But if you’re on a budget and looking for options packages that add functionality to your Audi, we’d recommend you go with the Convenience package on a Premium or step up to the Premium Plus and skip the options altogether.
