background
The Acura ILX, which was the brand’s smallest car, is being replaced with the Acura Integra in the 2023 lineup. If you’d like a brand-new Acura compact car, then the Acura Integra will soon be your only choice.
In a world that’s full of pickup trucks and SUVs, some people just want the smallest car they can find. Compact cars generally do well on gas and are easy to park, making them exceptional commuter cars.
Acura recently made a big change to its compact offerings, and buyers are left with a solid option in the Acura Integra.

2022 Acura compact and subcompact car models

As of 2022, there is a major change coming to compact Acura cars. The Acura ILX is being replaced after 2022, making way for the 2023 Acura Integra.

2022 Acura ILX (MSRP $27,300)

The Acura ILX is a subcompact car that’s meant to rival the luxurious
Honda Civic
. Like the Civic, the Acura ILX gets good mileage and comes at a relatively affordable price.
But what do the experts think about the Acura ILX? To be frank, they aren’t very high on the vehicle. Car and Driver rates the car at 6/10 and notes the lackluster technology and unimpressive engine. Edmunds rates the car as a 6.6/10 and doesn’t think very highly of the interior in general.
So: the experts don’t love the Acura ILX and it’s being replaced pretty soon. Does that mean it’s not a great vehicle? Not at all—there are plenty of things to like about the 2022 Acura ILX, especially at its $27,300 price tag
Some positives regarding the Acura ILX include:
  • Good fuel economy (combined 28 mpg)
  • 5-star safety rating from NHTSA
  • Comfortable interior with smooth driving
  • Standard sunroof and heated front seats
  • 4.5/5 reliability rating from RepairPal
One other upside?
Acura ILX car insurance costs
aren’t nearly as bad as some other luxury sedans. That means you’ll get a good price when you buy the car and continue saving down the road.

2023 Acura Integra (MSRP $30,800)

While it’s notable that the 2023 Acura Integra is classified as a compact car rather than a subcompact like the ILX, it’s still a great size for commuting. And if you want to buy a brand-new Acura in the future, the Acura Integra will be your smallest option.
So how does the brand-new Integra fair when it comes to expert reviews? Much better than the Acura ILX—Edmunds gives the 2023 Acura Integra a solid but not stellar 7.4/10 while praising the car for its technology and space. Car and Driver loves the new look along with the driving experience.
Other positives include:
  • Standard sunroof
  • Standard heated front seats
  • Keyless entry and startup
  • Fantastic fuel economy (combined 33 mpg)
Since the Acura Integra is considered an entry-level luxury sedan, it does have a few more faults than its more highly-priced competitors. Those flaws include:
  • Loud cabin
  • Simple interior
  • Many features are tied to higher trim levels
Like the Acura ILX,
Acura Integra insurance costs
shouldn’t be too high despite the luxury label. If you need a commuter car with great value, the Integra is a good choice.

Other small Acura models

The Acura ILX, and now the Acura Integra, are the smallest Acura models available right now. But if you’re willing to go a little bigger on your sedan, or if you’re okay wading into
SUV territory
, there are some other great options.

Acura TLX

The
Acura TLX
has a $40,000 price tag and it’s not considered a compact sedan. If you can get past those two facts, there is plenty to love about this sports car.
Car and Driver rates the TLX as an 8/10 and cites steering and looks as some of its main draws. Edmunds is excited about the Acura TLX too. They give a 7.6/10 rating and love all of the technology you get for that $40,000 price.
The Acura TLX measures around 194.6 inches long, which is less than 10 inches more than the Acura Integra. If you’ve always wanted a
sports car
and are okay with something a little longer, the TLX might be the better option.

Acura RDX

Not every SUV is a boxy three-row vehicle that’s difficult to park. Compact crossover SUVs are usually close to the length and width of sedans, something that is true of the
Acura RDX
. The 2022 model is only a few inches longer than the Acura Integra, although it costs $48,000
Car and Driver is slightly down on the Acura MDX as it only earns 6.5/10 from them. Edmunds is much more excited about the compact SUV, scoring it at 7.9/10 and raving about the interior and technology.
There are a few drawbacks to buying an SUV, even a compact SUV, such as worse gas mileage and a higher cost. With that said, anyone considering a compact Acura should at least take a look at the MDX.

to protect it.

What is Acura’s cheapest car?

The smallest Acura cars are also the most affordable! The Acura ILX is the cheapest Acura car and now that it’s been discontinued, the Acura Integra will earn that title.

How to save on Acura insurance

Smaller cars are usually less expensive to buy, and less expensive cars are often
cheaper to insure
. With that said, Acura is still a luxury brand, and the quality of components in its cars makes insuring them more expensive than insuring something like a Honda.
