Meet the biggest Acura SUV: the MDX

If you’re an Acura devotee and need room for seven people and a lot of stuff, then the MDX is the SUV for you. At 198.4 inches long and 4,259 pounds, it’s Acura’s largest creation yet
Even though it’s Acura’s biggest SUV, the MDX falls under the midsize SUV category. It has three rows of seating that can accommodate seven, though the third row is only going to be comfortable for kids. Large windows throughout the cabin provide great visibility and an open feel, and those lucky enough to be seated in the front row can enjoy massaging seats while they cruise down the road surrounded by top-tier materials and trimmings.
The Acura MDX is a performance SUV, which means that it’s got plenty of pick-up and provides an agile and fun ride. It’s capable of going 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds, and the S Type model packs an engine with twin-scroll turbochargers, extra horsepower, and a motorsports-inspired chassis.
A generous mixture of tech is included on the MDX, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. Top-notch driver assistance tech is also standard, with features like automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist/lane departure warnings.
In addition to being able to fit the whole family, the Acura MDX will keep them safe as well. It got a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and was a Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
With six trim levels, two different engines, and multiple options available, there’s an MDX to suit any lifestyle or budget.  And with a starting price of $49,050, it’s also one of the more affordable entries in the luxury SUV arena.

Cargo and towing

Having a big SUV is about more than just who you can fit inside—it’s also about what. Being able to tote around all the cargo you need is a make or break factor for an SUV, especially if you’ve got kids. Here’s what the MDX has to offer as far as cargo space goes:
  • Cargo volume behind the first row: 95 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind the second row: 48.4 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind the third row: 18.1 cubic feet
The cargo storage available behind the third row is just fine, but full-size SUVs like the
Kia Telluride
and the
Cadillac Escalade
measure over 20 cubic feet for this spec. That being said, given the overall exterior dimensions of the MDX, the cargo space is still impressive, and more than ample with the third or second rows folded down
As far as being able to tow what you can’t pack, the MDX’s towing capacity should meet the needs of most people. A front-wheel-drive MDX trim can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds, while the all-wheel-drive MDX or Type S trims can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds. This is enough to tow a small trailer or a boat, but if you’re looking to haul anything heavier than that, the MDX won’t quite have what it takes.

Acura MDX vs. the competition

The MDX might be the biggest SUV that Acura makes, but there’s no shortage of other large, luxurious SUVs out there.  Check out the table below to compare the dimensions and other key specs for the MDX and a few of its most direct competitors.
The
Lincoln Navigator
and the Cadillac Escalade are bigger and more powerful, but they also come with significantly higher starting prices. In the midsize class, Audi holds its own when it comes to cargo space and is a strong choice for both performance, roominess, and value.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
