2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: the basics

While the fuel efficiency and starting prices of the 2022

The differences don’t end there, though. Read on for a thorough comparison!

2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: interior & storage

The 2022 Ford Ranger comes as either an extended cab or a crew cab—known by Ford as the SuperCab or SuperCrew. The larger SuperCrew fits up to five people with four full-size doors. The SuperCab, on the other hand, only fits four people with two half-doors.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado sports a roomy front seat, but you’ll have a challenge fitting more than two in the back. You’ll have more luck with cargo space between the deep center console bin and the large compartment under the rear seat.

2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: technology & trims

The base XL Ford Ranger trim comes standard with a four-speaker AM/FM audio system, a Wi-Fi hotspot (that connects to up to ten devices!), and a USB port. If that’s not enough, consider stepping things up with the XLT or Lariat trims, and you’ll gain access to things like:
  • An 8.0-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
You also have the option to add a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and an integrated navigation system.
The 2022 Colorado is at the top of its class for tech and infotainment features, including the Chevrolet Infotainment 2 Premium system. The base trim offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth audio streaming for two devices. All the higher trims come equipped with an 8.0-inch display.

2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: towing & off-roading

The Ranger and Colorado have similar maximum towing capacities depending on the configuration. With the optional tow package, the 2022
Ranger can haul
an impressive 7500 lbs, while its payload capacity is good for up to 1860 lbs.
Because of the extra engine options, the 2022
Chevy Colorado towing capacity
ranges from 7000 lbs with the V6 to 7700 lbs with the diesel engine. Both of these top towing capacities require adding Chevy’s Trailering Equipment package. Without it, the base 2022 Colorado can only tow 3500 lbs with the four-cylinder engine.

2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: safety

Both trucks earn four out of five stars on their
Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA
and come with an unremarkable set of standard safety features.
The 2022 Ford Ranger comes standard with automated emergency braking and forward-collision warning. Its additional safety packages are relatively affordable and include features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
It’s slim pickings for the 2022 Chevy Colorado safety features. A few available add-ons include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and rear parking sensors.

2022 Ford Ranger vs. 2022 Chevy Colorado: reliability

According to RepairPal, the 2022 Ford Ranger earns an above-average reliability rating of four out of five. JD Power scores it 85/100 for Quality & Reliability.
The 2022 Chevy Colorado, on the other hand, scores 82/100 by JD Power for Quality & Reliability and also earns an above-average reliability rating of four out of five from RepairPal.

Which is better: Ranger or Colorado?

Now that we’ve gone over all the key specs, which truck comes out on top? In many ways, the Ranger and Colorado are very similar. Their price, efficiency, reliability, and towing capacity are almost identical.
But at the end of the day, the 2022 Chevy Colorado ranks higher than the 2022 Ford Ranger, with an 8.5/10 ranking from Car and Driver compared to the Ranger’s 7/10.
Colorado’s three engine options make it easier to tailor to your specific needs. If you deck your Colorado out right, you’ll have a more spacious, higher power, and more versatile truck.
