If you want to add an extra edge to your Ford Maverick, you can get the Black Appearance package for $1,645. You’ll swap out the plain accents for modern all-black ones plus 18-inch ebony aluminum wheels.
The Black Appearance package is available with the XLT and Lariat trims of the Maverick.
It is incompatible with the Tremor or FX4 Off-Roading packages, so you’ll need to choose between upgrading your looks or performance in this case.
The 2023 Ford Maverick gives you two engine choices, a lot of storage, and a decent towing capacity for its size. If you want a truck that looks as good as it’s built, you can add the Black Appearance package to the XLT and Lariat trims.
Let’s dive into what this package offers and whether you want to add it to your 2023 Maverick.
What is the Ford Maverick Black Appearance package?
You can add the Ford Maverick Black Appearance package to the XLT and Lariat trims, which constitutes a serious upgrade in the looks department.
This package adds various black accents to the vehicle. Most of these details are visible on the exterior, though the interior trim and the seats are also swapped out for a darker vibe.

What’s included
As you might guess from the name, the Black Appearance package focuses on making your new Maverick truck look better and darker. You’ll get the following vehicle parts in all-black:
Door handles
Front grille
Mirrors
Interior accents
Seats
Headlamps
Taillamps
18-inch ebony aluminum wheels
What it does
The Black Appearance package is about upgrading your truck’s details for a sleeker, more modern look.
First, you’ll swap out the chrome trim. The front grille will be black, while the Ford emblem is black and bronze. The headlights will get black backing to match the darker vibe of the front, giving everything a much sportier look.
Perhaps the most noticeable update is the wheels. You’ll get an ebony aluminum wheel instead of the plain chrome of the standard trim.
Other all-black features include the XLT or Lariat wording on the exterior, side mirror covers, and door handles. For the back of the truck, you’ll get a second black Ford emblem to match the front, while the taillights have a center strip of black.
For the interior, you’ll get black seating in cloth or leather, depending on whether it’s an XLT or Lariat. You’ll also swap out the trim for all-black, which is a major win over the previous orange trim.
Whether you’ll want to splurge on the Black Appearance package depends on several factors.
First, this package is all about aesthetics, so if you want your truck to look even better and more sporty, then consider upgrading your Maverick with this option. If you don’t want to spend $1,645 just to make your truck look cooler, then skip it.
The biggest factor is what features you want on your XLT or Lariat and whether you’ll use it for everyday driving or actual hauling and off-roading. Adding the Black Appearance package means you won’t be able to add the Tremor Off-Road Package, Tremor Off-Road and Appearance Package, or FX4 Off-Road Package.
If you want more features for off-roading or hauling, then the Black Appearance package will get in your way. The other three optional packages focus on giving you all-terrain wheels and better suspension, or extras like tow hooks and skid plates.
Black Appearance package vs. the Tremor Off-Road package
While the Tremor Off-Road package won’t be available until September 2023, its details are starting to come out. The initial order window for the 2023 Ford Maverick closed in a week thanks to so many orders, meaning you’ll have a choice between the newer packages and the Black Appearance package when Ford opens up orders again.
Let’s look at what the Tremor Off-Road package will include:
All-terrain tires
Suspension tuned for off-roading
Steel skid plates
Darker head and tail lights
You’ll be limited to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 horsepower, so take that into consideration.
You can add the Appearance package ($1,500) for Carbonized Gray colors throughout the truck if you get the Tremor Off-Road package. The Tremor option costs $3,000, and if you add the Appearance package, it’s $4,500 total.
You’ll have to decide between the Black Appearance package and the Tremor Off-Road package since you can’t pair the two. If you want to do a lot of hauling or off-roading, you’ll want to prioritize the Tremor Off-Road option.
Adding the regular Appearance package will get the look of your truck closer to the Black Appearance package vibe and still allow you the benefits of other upgrades.
Black Appearance package vs. the FX4 Off-Road package
Another option you can choose is the FX4 Off-Road package, and just like with the Tremor option, you can either choose the Black Appearance or the FX4 Off-Road package, but not both.
Here’s what you’ll get:
Front tow hooks
Hill Descent Control
Skid plates
17-inch all-terrain tires
Multiple drive modes
Off-road screen for instrument cluster
Better suspension
Better engine cooling fan
Higher capacity radiator
As with the Tremor option, you’ll need to stick to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 horsepower if you get the FX4 option. This option will cost you $800, which isn’t bad for all the extras you get.
You can’t get both the FX4 Off-Road package and the Black Appearance option either, so you have to pick between practicality or appearance in this case as well.
Whether the Black Appearance package is worth it for you comes down to whether you want to spend money on a decent upgrade to the appearance. If you want the more practical Tremor or FX4 Off-Road options, then you won’t be able to have your all-black details, too.
