The biggest factor is what features you want on your XLT or Lariat and whether you’ll use it for everyday driving or actual hauling and off-roading. Adding the Black Appearance package means you won’t be able to add the Tremor Off-Road Package, Tremor Off-Road and Appearance Package, or FX4 Off-Road Package.
If you want more features for off-roading or hauling, then the Black Appearance package will get in your way. The other three optional packages focus on giving you all-terrain wheels and better suspension, or extras like tow hooks and skid plates.
Black Appearance package vs. the Tremor Off-Road package
While the Tremor Off-Road package won’t be available until September 2023, its details are starting to come out. The initial order window for the 2023 Ford Maverick closed in a week thanks to so many orders, meaning you’ll have a choice between the newer packages and the Black Appearance package when Ford opens up orders again.
Let’s look at what the Tremor Off-Road package will include:
- All-terrain tires
- Suspension tuned for off-roading
- Steel skid plates
- Darker head and tail lights
You’ll be limited to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 horsepower, so take that into consideration.
You can add the Appearance package ($1,500) for Carbonized Gray colors throughout the truck if you get the Tremor Off-Road package. The Tremor option costs $3,000, and if you add the Appearance package, it’s $4,500 total.
You’ll have to decide between the Black Appearance package and the Tremor Off-Road package since you can’t pair the two. If you want to do a lot of hauling or off-roading, you’ll want to prioritize the Tremor Off-Road option.
Adding the regular Appearance package will get the look of your truck closer to the Black Appearance package vibe and still allow you the benefits of other upgrades.
Black Appearance package vs. the FX4 Off-Road package
Another option you can choose is the FX4 Off-Road package, and just like with the Tremor option, you can either choose the Black Appearance or the FX4 Off-Road package, but not both.
