The Honda Fit ended its North American run after the 2020 model year, although it’s still available for sale in other markets. In the United States, it leaves behind a legacy as the prototypical subcompact car—a vehicle that was small but mighty, and surprisingly safe despite its size.
The newest North American Honda Fit you can find would be a 2020 model that could sell for anywhere between $18,500 and $27,200. And frankly, if you’re looking for a used Honda Fit to buy, newer is probably better. As you look back in the model’s early history, the crash test results just aren’t as desirable as in later years.

Is the Honda Fit a safe car?
The Honda Fit’s small size might hint at vulnerability, but the subcompact wagon has fared surprisingly well in crash and safety tests from the
National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA)
and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the model’s safety ratings vary somewhat by year, with recent years often receiving higher scores for crash tests and safety features than earlier model years.
IIHS crash test ratings
The 2020 Honda Fit received overall good marks from the IIHS on crashworthiness. But on crash avoidance and mitigation, the Fit received marginal or poor scores for its headlights, with the LX and Sport trims’ headlights rated the worst.
The 2020 Fit’s optional frontal crash prevention system earned a superior rating, but this feature didn’t come standard on the model. Otherwise, the model year’s IIHS ratings are mostly good across the board, except for the potential torso injuries in the side collision test and the vehicle’s LATCH system, which both received acceptable ratings.
Other crash test ratings
Since 2015, the NHTSA has given the Fit an overall five-star rating. While the Fit improved its side crash passenger collision score from four stars to five stars starting in 2015, it only managed to earn four stars on the rollover grade in every single model year evaluated.
The NHTSA performs what it calls the rollover resistance test, which evaluates the likelihood of a rollover if the vehicle loses control in a single-car accident. According to the NHTSA, the Fit has a 14.7% rollover risk for 2022. That risk is actually slightly elevated from the 2012 model year, which only received a four-star overall rating.
2020 Honda Fit safety features
The 2020 Fit comes standard with many of the modern safety features you’d expect in a contemporary vehicle, but not much in the way of driver assistance features. Those are available with higher trims or added packages.
The standard key safety features include electronic stability control, ABS and driveline traction control, side-impact beams, curtain airbags for both rows, seat-mounted airbags for the driver and passenger, and dual-stage airbags for the front row. There’s also an airbag occupancy sensor and rear child safety locks.
