How important is it to have car insurance?

I don't have insurance currently and I've never been pulled over. I also haven't been in accident. Is it really that important to have insurance?

“While you may consider yourself a good driver, you still need
car insurance
. With the notable exception of New Hampshire, every state requires
minimum coverage car insurance
to legally get behind the wheel.
Without insurance, you would be responsible for any damages or injuries you cause. You could also face:
  • A license suspension
  • Lawsuits
  • Fines for not having insurance
  • Even jail time
Since the purpose of car insurance is to protect other people from you, you are endangering other people’s lives by not carrying insurance.
If you’re concerned about the cost of insurance, carrying
liability car insurance
will likely cover your state’s minimum insurance requirements and save you money.
