How do you pair a BMW key fob?

What do I need to do to pair my BMW key fob with my car? I assumed it would just work out of the box, but that is clearly not the case.

Setting up your new car can be a frustrating experience—but it should also be exciting! You can follow these steps to pair your new BMW key fob to your car:
  • First, insert the key into the ignition flick it back and forth 5 times between the OFF position and position one.
  • Quickly press the BMW logo on the key fob three times while holding down the unlock button.
  • Release the unlock button, then turn on the ignition.
  • Your key fob should be paired!
If this process doesn’t work the first time, try it again! The process is a little complicated, so it might take more than one try to get it right.
