Sounds like you’ve run into one of the most common issues with Ford Rangers made in the late 1990s—a dome light that won’t shut off! While this problem can be a major nuisance (especially if it drains your battery) it’s usually easy to fix.
To repair a dome light that’s stuck on in a 1999
Ford Ranger
, just grab a lubricant like WD-40, petroleum jelly, or plumber’s grease, and use it on the metal parts of your door latch. Usually, this will make the door hinge slippery enough for the truck’s sensors to recognize whether your doors are open or closed, causing the dome light to go off or on at the appropriate time.However, if you’ve used lubricant on your doors and the dome light still doesn’t turn off, you might have rusted or corroded hinge pins. You can try replacing these parts yourself if you’re handy—hinge pins can be found at most auto parts or hardware stores—or simply bring your car to your trusted auto mechanic for repairs.
