Dollar a day insurance
, or the Special Automotive Insurance Policy (SAIP), is designed to provide supplemental coverage for medical costs for low-income drivers.
The biggest downside to SAIP is that it’s not a substitute for car liability insurance that meets New Jersey’s
state minimum car insurance
 requirements.
It’s also difficult to qualify, as only 17% of New Jerseyans have Medicaid, which is a precursor for the SAIP program.”
