Most Hyundai models will require you to enter a radio code after the radio is disconnected from the battery. If you don’t know your radio code off-hand, you can find it on a white sticker in the glove box.
So your car battery died. That’s okay—it happens to most of us! But now you’re seeing a confusing message on your radio display, and you can’t play any of your music without it. This is your sound system’s anti-theft security measure at work, but if all that happened was a battery jumpstart, it can be a bit frustrating to deal with.
The radio code is what you’ll need in this situation. And here to give you the means to retrieve your Hyundai radio code is Jerry
, the super app and licensed car insurance
broker. We’ll go over why you need a code and how you can find your radio code before giving you expert tips on upgrading your Hyundai car insurance
. Why do I need a Hyundai radio code?
You’ve never had to enter a code to use your radio before, so why now? It’s frustrating, and if you’ve never heard of a radio code before, you may be sitting quite stumped.
The intention of a radio code is not to block you from the new Beyoncé but rather to deter would-be stereo thieves. This security feature is activated whenever the radio is disconnected from the battery—when it dies, gets replaced, or when gloved hands are trying to sneak it into a burlap sack for resale.
It won’t, unfortunately, be able to tell the difference between those events. So, even after a jumpstart, you’ll be left needing the radio code.
How to find your Hyundai radio code
Good news, though! Retrieving your Hyundai radio code is relatively simple.
In most Hyundai models, the radio code is on a small white sticker in the glove box. It will say something along the lines of “Anti-Theft Radio Code” and should have a five-digitcode. This five-digit radio code is what you’ll enter to unlock your stereo system.
How to look up your Hyundai radio code
No sticker in sight? No problem! You can still retrieve your Hyundai radio code using the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the radio serial number. You’ll just have to do a bit more work.
The VIN is a 17-digit code that you can find at the base of your windshield, on your vehicle’s registration, or on your insurance card.
The radio serial number, on the other hand, will be a bit trickier to find since it’s written on the actual radio unit. You’ll need to remove the radio unit from your vehicle—and to do that, you’ll need car radio removal tools—these can sometimes look like keys or U-shaped pins.
Then, follow the removal instructions in the radio’s instruction manual you should have gotten when you purchased your Hyundai. If you bought a used Hyundai or no longer have the manual, search for your specific year and model’s radio instruction manual online.
Once you’ve jotted down the VIN and radio serial number, you’re ready to retrieve your Hyundai radio code! There are two ways you can do this:
Call (800) 633-5151, Monday to Friday 6:00am-5:00pm PST, or Saturday 6:30am-3:00pm PST.
Schedule an appointment at your local Hyundai dealership and ask a Hyundai technician for their help in retrieving your radio code.
