How do you open the gas tank on a 2009 BMW X5?

My daughter just bought a used 2009 BMW X5 and it’s finally time to refuel her car, but neither of us can figure out how to open the gas tank. Do you know how to open the gas tank on a 2009 BMW X5?

New cars can take some getting used to, so we totally understand your problem. Thankfully, the 2009 BMW X5 has a pretty easy-to-open gas tank once you know how to do it. We’ve created an easy step-by-step guide for you to follow below:
  • Step one: at the rear end of the passenger’s side of the car, you’ll find a rectangular cut-out in the X5’s body. This is the fuel door.
  • Step two: push the far side of the fuel door as if it were a button. This will make the fuel door open.
  • Step three: to access the gas tank, unscrew the gas cap underneath the fuel door. Now you’re ready to refuel!
The 2009 X5’s range is about 405 miles when it’s running on a full 22.5-gallon tank of gas. Still, you should always refuel before your fuel gauge dips to “E”—ideally when you reach a quarter-tank or so. Think about protecting your daughter from roadside catastrophes with towing and labor coverage for when you need fuel delivered to you on the roadside, among other handy roadside services.
