How do I file a claim off someone else's car insurance?

My cousin got his back end swiped by a Honda last week and needs help filing a claim. How do you make a claim off the other party's insurance?

Sorry to hear about your cousin’s accident. Thankfully, filing a claim with another person’s insurance company isn’t difficult.
He’ll first want to report the accident to his own insurer, even though the other party’s insurer will likely be making a payout. Your insurer will represent you and contact the other party’s provider to begin an investigation.
The insurance companies will use evidence from the scene to determine which driver is at-fault. Be sure to supply:
  • The responsible party’s name, address, and insurance policy details (he should have asked for this information at the scene)
  • Pictures of both cars showing the extent of damage
If you didn’t contact law enforcement at the scene of the accident, you will want to call the police to get an official police report and eyewitness statements.
If the Honda is determined to be at-fault, their insurer will settle your claim. If they deny your claim, you can file a claim with your insurer, as long as you have
collision coverage
on your policy.
