Does GEICO renters insurance cover pet damage?

I just got a puppy and I’m also looking at getting renters insurance for the first time. What do I need? I have GEICO car insurance. But does GEICO renters insurance cover pet damage?

Congrats on the new puppy! Unfortunately, GEICO renters insurance doesn’t cover pet damage to your property. However, if your dog bites someone and causes an injury, your renters insurance
liability coverage
may help you cover ensuing legal fees.
So your renters insurance will protect you from lawsuits from people who visit your apartment and are injured by your pet, or if their personal property is damaged by them.
But renters insurance doesn’t cover damages to your property caused by your pet. If your puppy goes potty on your new rug, you’ll be stuck covering replacement costs out of pocket.
Remember that GEICO works as an
insurance broker
when it comes to home and renters insurance, so your actual policy will be underwritten by a different provider.
