Do most homeowners insurance policies cover replacement of sewer lines?

One of the toilets in my home stopped working. After hiring a plumber, I found out that I need to replace a portion of the sewer line. It's going to cost $8,000. Will my homeowners insurance cover this situation?

“Even if you have a water or sewage backup endorsement on your homeowners policy, it’s highly unlikely that your policy will cover the replacement of a sewer line.
However, you can often add a separate sewer line endorsement or additional coverage to your existing policy.
If you add this to your policy, you’ll want to read what it covers, as well as
how to choose the right deductible
, just as you would on car insurance. This will help you keep costs low and still have the coverage you need.
If you’re unhappy with your insurance coverage or rates for adding additional coverage, consider shopping around. Different carriers offer different coverages at different rates, so you can likely find what you’re looking for.
