How do you open the gas tank on a Kia Rio?
So, I’m pulled up at the pump in a rental Kia Rio, but I’m having a hard time refueling it. There’s just no way to open the fuel door from the outside! Help! How do you open the gas tank of a Kia Rio?

, you won’t be able to open the fuel door from the outside. You’ll have to pull a lever inside the vehicle to open the door and access the gas cap. If it sounds confusing, don’t worry. After a couple of tries, you’ll get the hang of it! Follow the steps below for hassle-free refueling in your Kia Rio:
- First things first—make sure you turn off your vehicle’s engine before refueling (it’s a safety thing).
- Next, locate the fuel filler door opener, which is a lever located on the left side of the driver’s footwell. It will be marked with a gas pump icon.
- Pull up on the lever to pop open the fuel filler door.
- Exit your vehicle and locate the open fuel door.
- Pull the fuel door the rest of the way open, then unscrew the fuel cap by turning it counterclockwise.
From there, refueling should be a breeze—just insert the gas pump and add as much as you need! When you’re done, don’t forget to reattach the fuel cap by turning it clockwise, then press the fuel door firmly shut.
