If you’re aware of coverage gaps in your homeowners insurance policy, it’s a good idea to look into new coverage options. You can change your home insurance policy at any time, but you may have to pay a fee for doing so before the end of your term.

As you search for a new policy, you should verify it has your mortgage lender’s minimum coverage requirements. Once you’ve made your new pick, remember to inform your mortgage lender, too.
One last thing to remember: don’t cancel your current policy until your new home insurance policy is in effect. You don’t want your home to be without coverage in the meantime.
