Are hybrid vehicles more expensive to insure?

I like the fuel economy that hybrids provide. However, I was a bit leery about how much insurance might cost. Are hybrid vehicles typically more expensive than regular vehicles?

In general, hybrids are going to be a bit more expensive to insure than normal gas-powered vehicles.
While
liability coverage
for a hybrid is similar in price to a regular car, the more expensive parts in hybrid cars mean that you’ll probably pay a higher premium for comprehensive or collision coverage. This is because of a few reasons:
  • Initial cost: The base price of hybrids are higher than their gas-powered counterparts
  • More expensive parts: Replacement costs are going to cost more to purchase
  • Specialized services: Due to the intricacies of the vehicles, you may have to go to a specialist
  • More accidents: Hybrids are quieter on the roads, so they are more likely to be in collisions with pedestrians or bicyclists
