The steps to pair your phone to Bluetooth differ between cars, so it can be tricky to remember! To connect Bluetooth to a
Ford Explorer
from 2012, make sure your phone is compatible with Ford’s SYNC system and follow these steps:
  1. Enable Bluetooth on your phone to allow SYNC to detect it.
  2. Select the Phone button on your Explorer’s SYNC screen to display the phone menu.
  3. The system may require you to press okay to enter the menu.
  4. An Add a Device option will pop up on your screen. Press OK to confirm.
  5. Follow the prompt by pressing OK.
  6. “Search for SYNC on your device and enter the PIN provided by SYNC” will appear. Press OK to confirm. A 6-digit PIN will stay on the SYNC screen for 3 minutes.
  7. Enter the PIN into your phone. A confirmation message will let you know when the phone is connected.
  8. Close the message and press OK to exit the menu.
Your phone is now connected through Bluetooth!
While Bluetooth can sometimes be tedious to set up, it’s an excellent option for those looking to use their device hands-free and avoid a
distracted driving
ticket. The charges connected to a distracted driving ticket can be steep, depending on where you live. For example, in District of Columbia, a distracted driving charge on your record can result in an insurance premium increase of over $1,000 per year!
The solution? Connect to Bluetooth and keep your hands off your phone!
