In 2022, Volvo is planning to step up its electric car game in a big way, bringing out not one, not two, but five new
electric cars
. Electric vehicle sales have skyrocketed over the past few years, as they increased in popularity due to their environmental and economic benefits.
Volvo doesn’t want to fall behind on the electric car trend. In fact, they want to lead it. Volvo is
planning to be the future of electric cars with a new EV design
, five new show-stopping models, and a pledge to be all electric by 2030.

What is Volvo’s new EV design?

Unsurprisingly, Volvo’s new structure does away with the gas-powered model that has done the company well in the past and pivots to a large battery. On top of that, the electric vehicle will be more aerodynamic and provide more storage space.
It’s been reported that in order to make space for the battery, Volvo had to lengthen the wheelbase. Consequently, this also provides extra interior space for both passengers and drivers.
On the outside, expect Volvo’s electric vehicle to look similar to its gas-powered vehicles, but cleaner and more streamlined. It will have different headlights and a new, unique, flat grille at the front. All this will give the electric Volvo a quiet, smart look.

As
Gear Patrol
points out, Volvo’s pledge to become all-electric will require a major pivot from its current lineup, which centers around gas-powered SUVs. The company’s starting point is with these five new electric cars, announced at a dealer event in Miami.
Although we don’t know too many specifics yet, it’s reported that the new fleet will be a mix of both large and small electric vehicles.
Car and Driver
reports a full-size electric crossover will likely be a replacement for the Volvo XC90, offering three rows of seating. There will also be a small sized electric sedan.
There will also be two sporty wagon-like electric vehicles, but no further details have been released about them. Beyond that, Car and Driver reports Volvo is expected to have an electric vehicle crossover between the XC60 and XC90, debuting in 2025.
Plus, there are rumors of an all-electric XC60, and an EV even smaller than the XC40, but neither are confirmed just yet.
