That's exactly what GCK Motorsport did with the Lancia Delta, a popular car from the ‘90s that's making a return as an electric racing car.
A short history of the Lancia Delta
The Lancia Delta made its debut in 1979, and interestingly, this generation of the Delta survived into the early ‘90s. Lancia didn't keep the Delta the same the whole time, however, and Lancia produced a lot of variations of the car.
The Lancia Delta was very competitive on the tracks
It didn't take long before folks were modifying the Delta for racing. People started doing this in the mid-’80s, and the results speak for themselves. The Delta HF and Delta HF Integrale trims both dominated races, and that helped boost sales of the car.
Soon, the Lancia Delta died, largely thanks to how it performed in terms of sales. Nowadays, Lancia doesn't seem to be working on another Delta, but that hasn't stopped racing fans from making an EV out of the Delta.
How powerful is the Lancia Delta EV?
Regardless, it still looks like the Delta that racing fans knew and love, but now, with electric power. In fact, it actually has a lot of power, far more than what the Delta used to have.
That's because it now has two electric motors that generate a combined 671 horsepower and 649 lb-ft of torque. That is three times more horsepower than what the Delta got. As a result, it's able to go from 0 to 62 mph in just 1.8 seconds.
Not only that, but GCK will also be building a limited run of road-legal versions of this car. It'll have all-wheel drive, but it'll only have 197 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Its range will also be a short 124 miles.
Renew your car insurance the right way
Converting the beloved Lancia Delta into an EV can be a good way to renew interest in the car, and folks can do something similar with their car insurance.
