What is the cheapest Tesla Model 3 EV?

The cheapest Tesla Model 3 model is the Rear Wheel Drive trim which retails for a starting price of $48,440. The Rear Wheel Drive trim gets its name from the fact that these models have only one electric motor mounted on the rear axle for—you guessed it!—rear-wheel drive.
Subsequent trims add a motor to the front axle, giving these models added torque, power, and all-wheel drive. Besides that, the Model 3’s features do not vary wildly from trim to trim. The biggest differences between trims are battery size and a handful of performance options.
Every Tesla, including the base Rear Wheel Drive model, comes with:
  • Front trunk, aka “frunk”
  • Available Netflix
  • Available Autopilot driver assist suite
  • Wireless charging
Note that Autopilot—Tesla’s famous self-driving technology suite—is optional for all trims, and costs an additional $12,000

Is a 2022 Tesla Model 3 EV worth it?

With a starting price tag of under $50K, the Tesla Model 3 is shockingly affordable. By contrast, the decidedly less futuristic BMW i4 and Polestar 2 have starting prices of $56,395 and $47,200 respectively. Other more luxury-focused EVs eclipse the $100K mark, such as the Mercedes EQS and the Audi e-tron GT, which retail at $103,360 and $103,895 respectively.
Whether the Tesla sticker price is worth it ultimately boils down to what you want to get out of it. If you’re worried about your carbon footprint and feel as though it’s time to drive something more environmentally responsible, the Model 3 may be just what you’re looking for. If you want to rip around the track at 162 miles-per-hour, the Model 3’s got you covered there, too.
But, before you go making your decision, let’s look a little closer at some of the Tesla Model 3’s features.

What is the horsepower of a 2022 Tesla Model 3 EV?

Given the nerdy reputation that electric vehicles have unfairly earned over the years, you’d be forgiven if you assumed that the Tesla Model 3 is a bit of a wimp. But, that is certainly not the case.
The top-of-the-line Model 3 Performance has a top speed of 162 miles per hour and is capable of going from zero-to-60 in 3.1 seconds. To put that into perspective, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 clocked a zero-to-60 of 3.4 seconds. Revenge of the nerds, indeed.
Here are the top speeds and zero-to-60 times for all Tesla Model 3 trims:
  • Rear Wheel Drive: 140 mph, 5.8 seconds
  • Long Range: 145 mph, 4.2 seconds
  • Performance: 162 mph, 3.1 seconds

What is the range of the 2022 Tesla Model 3 EV?

The entry-level Rear Wheel Drive trim is outfitted with a lithium-phosphate-ion battery pack that gives it 272 miles of driving range. While that range might have been great in 2017 when the Model 3 first rolled off the production line, it's only mildly impressive by today’s standards.
To get the most mileage out of the Model 3, you’ll need to go up a trim level to the Long Distance model, which sports a larger battery pack with a 358-mile range. That puts the Model 3 in the top-three EVs in terms of range, behind only the Tesla Model S (405 miles), and the Lucid Air (520 miles).
Although the Performance trim also boasts a larger battery pack, its various performance accouterments impede its efficiency, giving it a range of about 315 miles.

Is the 2022 Tesla Model 3 EV reliable?

Unfortunately, Teslas don’t have a great reputation for being reliable, although no official reliability rating for the Model 3 exists.
In 2020, 250 problems were reported per 100 Tesla vehicles within 90 days of purchase. The Model Y has also been singled out as a problem vehicle by Consumer Reports. That vehicle’s poor reliability may play a large part in the overall reputation of Tesla as a whole.
