The driving range of the 2021 Porsche Taycan electric vehicle (EV) gets a maximum range of 268 miles on a single charge.
Porsche has been a pioneer in the alternative-fuel market longer than anyone—literally. Having created the world’s first hybrid vehicle in 1899, Porsche knows a thing or two about innovation. They released their first mass-produced hybrid in 2010, but their very first fully-electric vehicle—the Taycan—didn’t hit the market until 2020.
The Taycan makes a solid luxury EV—but how does its range vary across models, and how does it stack up against the competition? Jerry—the super app created to save you money on car insurance—is here with all the answers.

Porsche Taycan range

Since Porsche first dropped the Taycan EV in 2019, each year model has come with a different maximum range. The 2021 model is the top dog with an estimated range of up to 268 miles, but that’s a conservative estimate based on reported ranges. In Car and Driver’s test, it managed 280 miles on a single charge—and that’s on the base model. The standard battery is a 79.2 kWh 723V lithium-ion, but the top driving range is made possible by the optional 83.7-kWh Performance Battery Plus
The base model may have the range, but it definitely lacks the power of the upper trims. With just one electric motor and the smaller battery option, the base Taycan generates 402 hp, but this goes up to 469 hp with the larger battery. The top Turbo S trim gets up to 750 hp with dual electric motors, but the driving range drops to just 202 miles.
In contrast, the 2022 Taycan model has a top estimated range of 212 miles—almost 50 miles fewer than the 2021 model.
If you’re like the average American with a daily work commute of 16 miles, you could complete your daily drive for over two weeks without charging if you’re driving the base 2021 Taycan. Many Taycan drivers choose the sports car for its chic appearance and brand name, but the excellent driving range likely tops the list of perks of the model. Let’s see how the models and trims compare to each other over the Taycan’s lifespan.

2022 Porsche Taycan charging time and fuel economy

Switching to an electric vehicle is a big decision, and driving range is only one of the most important numbers to consider before making the big purchase. The other key number to take into account is charging time, which can be the difference between a more convenient vehicle or a major burden.
With the standard 79.2 kWh battery, charging your Porsche Taycan with a 110-volt Level 1 charger will take up to 47 hours to charge from 0 to 100%—but who has almost two full days to waste for that? If you use a 240V Level 2 charger, though, you’re looking at just 12 hours instead.
If you’ve got access to a DC fast charger, the Taycan can go from 20% to 80% in just 17 minutes. In fact, the Taycan gained 100 miles of range in just 7 minutes
When it comes to fuel economy, the 2021 Taycan gets up to 79 MPGe in the city and 80 MPGe on the highway—but these numbers vary depending on which trim and battery you’ve got.

How does the Porsche Taycan compare to its competitors?

Porsche may be a top player in the luxury electric vehicle genre, but there are plenty of worthy competitors in the mix as well, like the Tesla Model S, the BMW M5, and the Audi E-tron GT.

There’s a reason the Porsche Taycan sits at the top of its class in ratings—not only is it one of the most affordable, but it’s got an excellent range and low repair costs. It’s also much more accessible than the cheaper Lucid Air, which is currently only available by reservation—or by paying triple the price on the used market. When it comes to upfront costs, Taycan offers the fullest package out of its competitors.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
