Though
Porsche
is trying to keep the information under wraps, all arrows are indicating that its next electric vehicle will be the Porsche Macan Electric, to be released in late 2023.
Porsche has stated that its focus as it moves toward a full-scale EV market is to improve batteries for more power and extended range. Redesigning the Macan to improve aerodynamics fits right in with those goals.

About the design of the Porsche Macan Electric

The SUV-coupe body style of the Porsche Macan makes it a logical choice for Porsche to build from and adapt for the EV market, according to

. But don't expect Porsche to just drop the electric components into the Macan, which debuted in 2013.
The next-gen Macan Electric will be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) or PPE-Architektur in German.
Porsche and Audi are developing this brand-new platform specifically for luxury electric vehicles. Audi plans to mount at least three models on the platform, including the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Audi A6 e-tron.
Porsche felt it would need to make too many compromises to address weight and dimension issues by converting an existing platform.
The exclusive EV platform also allows Porsche to make other design changes to make the Macan Electric more aerodynamic and energy-efficient. For instance, a lowered nose and an active spoiler edge on the trunk improve airflow to boost efficiency.
Porsche also might add virtual side mirrors to reduce drag and increase range. Virtual mirrors are small video cameras that replace bulky mirrors and project the outside scene into a screen in the door.

What's happening inside the Porsche Macan Electric?

Expect Porsche to follow the direction it took with the Taycan to incorporate a fully digital instrument panel with driver-focused curves. The dash also likely will include a passenger-side display panel.
The Macan also will also likely feature a rotary gear selector instead of a traditional gearshift lever.
A large touchscreen will drive the all-new infotainment system operating on Google's Android Automotive operating system. Volkswagen Group's software team is developing its own software architecture based on the open-source Android system so vehicles will not need to feature the Google Play Store. Instead, VG will offer a third-party app store.

Numbers to know

Porsche aims to address concerns from Taycan owners and boost the range while cutting charging time on the new Macan Electric. The Taycan offers a maximum range of 300 miles, depending on the configuration.
Porsche is expected to offer two battery pack options on the Macan, with the larger pack targeted for the United States and Canada.
Porsche is likely to target a maximum range of 340 miles for the Macan. But the Volkswagen Group earlier reported its goal for the PPE platform was to boost EVs into the 370-mile range.
As for power, the Macan Turbo in the initial season is expected to top out at 500 horsepower, better than its Turbo gas cousin at 434 hp. But Porsche is developing a Turbo S version for the second year that could come in with 600 hp.
Finally, Porsche now is expected to unveil the Macan Electric (by the way that's a working title that also could change) by late 2023, which means it will hit dealerships in early 2024. The base price is expected to be around $80,000.
