A new challenger in the executive electric car segment has appeared: the ultra-luxe
Mercedes EQS
. It is currently the first dedicated electric car in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, but the brand promises that there is more to come. According to Mercedes, the EQS is modeled after the S-Class flagship but has its own unique shape and concept.
While the luxury
electric car
segment is still growing, there are a few already established competitors that Mercedes-Benz will have to contend with, namely Tesla. The plucky Tesla Model 3 may outsell the EQS, but does Mercedes have what it takes to justify its six-figure price tag?
Jerry
has all the info you need to see how the Mercedes EQS vs. Tesla Model 3 compare, and if the EQS is worth it.

Mercedes EQS vs. Tesla Model 3: power and performance

For comparison purposes, we will be looking at the 450+ Sedan trim. The Mercedes EQS 450+ Sedan has an MSRP starting at $102,310. The single electric motor provides 329 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds.
Both trim versions of the EQS have a 108-kilowatt-hour battery pack, EPA-estimated ranges of 350 miles, and a top speed of 130 mph. Charging the EQS from 10% charged to 100% charged using a 240-volt Level 2 charger takes 11 hours and 15 minutes, while going from 10% charged to 80% charged using a DC fast charger takes just over 30 minutes.
According to
Consumer Reports
, the Model 3 has a driving range that spans from 263 to 353 with the Long Range battery. While the Model 3 delivers on sportiness and is fun to drive, it does come with some stiffness and discomfort compared to Tesla’s higher-end models.
The long-range Model 3 takes about 12 hours to charge on a Level 2 charger.

Mercedes EQS vs. Tesla Model 3: comfort and entertainment

The EQS sports a massive MBUX infotainment system that uses three total screens and an optional 56-inch touch screen. It also comes equipped with all of the latest technology and
safety features
, including automatic emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot warning (BSW), and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW).
According to a road test performed by
Consumer Reports
, the interior of the car is made for comfort and customization, with incredible attention to detail in almost every aspect of the ride. Drivers can choose from 64 different configurations of ambient interior lighting, several propulsion soundtracks, nature sounds with corresponding fragrances, and even heated and massaging seats.
True to Tesla style, the Model 3 has some quirks to its design that aren’t found in other cars due to its minimalist, futuristic design. The large center touch screen is the hub through which the driver accesses all information and controls, while the rest of the interior is relatively bare.
Some drivers love the simplicity of the interior design, but others find it highly distracting.

Which car should you choose?

In terms of power, comfort and style for the Mercedes EQS vs. Tesla Model 3, the EQS certainly out-performs the Model 3, but the upscale electric sedan certainly isn't for everyone. The Long Range Model 3 has a comparable battery range at a fraction of the price of an EQS, and for some drivers, that will be enough to sway them.
The EQS offers an added level of luxury that is perhaps only rivaled by Tesla’s higher-end models such as the Model X, but Tesla fans seeking a more affordable ride will certainly love the Model 3. In spite of its quirks, many drivers rave about their Model 3s, and it is a popular car across generations.
