Lincoln Aviator
Plug-In Hybrid.
Looking for a plenty-powerful SUV? One filled to the brim with all the latest interior bells & whistles? Not to mention a cabin so opulent that a sea-faring pirate of yesteryear would be jealous?
Well, the Lincoln Aviator PHEV could be just your ticket to the plush driving experience of your dreams. That being said, it’ll cost you—the Aviator PHEV starts at $69,875, and that’s for the lowest plug-in trim.
So if you’re ready to know all there is to know about this palatial plug-in SUV, you’ve come to the right place.
Jerry

2022 Lincoln Aviator plug-in hybrid

A midsize SUV outfitted with all the trimmings of its larger Lincoln sibling—the
Navigator
—the Aviator has a bold, modern look anchoring it firmly in the present while pointing to a fully-electrified future.
Granted, the Lincoln Aviator PHEV isn’t cheap. But if you thought driving your way into the future before the majority of the public gets there would be an inexpensive endeavor, well…you’d be wrong.
However, there’s plenty to make the price worthwhile. The Lincoln Aviator brings everything you’d want in a luxury SUV—the pomp of its interior luxury, the pageantry of its stately exterior design, and all the technology you can stuff inside a modern-day SUV.

Pricing

The Aviator Plug-In Hybrid starts at $69,875 for the Grand Touring PHEV, the lowest trim. Things get even pricier for the top-level Aviator trim, the Black Label Grand Touring PHEV, which sets your back $89,425. This top trim is absolutely loaded with every option available.
Keep in mind that if you’re buying a 2022 Lincoln Aviator PHEV, you may be eligible for a federal tax credit worth $6,534.

Performance and fuel economy

The Lincoln Aviator Plug-In Hybrid boasts plenty of power, courtesy of a 3.0 L V6 engine mated with a 100-horsepower electric motor. Combined, this Matthew McConaughey-approved plug-in SUV boasts a robust 494 horsepower with 630 pound-feet of torque.
But all that power does come with a bit of a trade-off. The Aviator gets just 23 mpg and 56 MPGe, which are both okay, but not great, fuel efficiency figures.
The Aviator is also capable of going fully electric and gets 18 miles of range when just the Aviator’s lithium-ion battery is in use.
Charging the Lincoln Aviator on a standard 120v outlet will take between 10 and 11 hours. If using a dedicated 240v outlet as well as a Level 2 adapter, your charging time is greatly reduced to just 3.5 hours.
In terms of driving experience, the Lincoln Aviator offers a pleasant and refined ride, but it doesn’t offer the athletic handling found in some competitors, such as the
BMW
X5 Plug-In Hybrid. Still, you’ll find an enjoyable and quiet cabin with the Aviator, even on the highway.

Exterior styling

Let’s just say that the 2022 Aviator is not your great-uncle Sid’s Lincoln—the Aviator SUV exudes sophistication, bold styling, and power with its fetching exterior design. Did your long-gone great uncle’s Lincoln ever have the option of adding exterior colors such as Gilded Green or Bronze Smoke, not to mention the extra sizzle of Lincoln’s new Jet Appearance Package, with its jet-black chrome accents? We didn’t think so.

Interior and comfort

The Lincoln Aviator Plug-in Hybrid’s ritzy interior certainly looks and feels the part of a luxury SUV. Mahogany Khaya wood inlays, Savannah leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front and second-row seats are just the start. Massage-capable front seats that are 28-way power adjustable are also standard. There’s a third row of seating as well, which can be tight for adults but is perfect for kids.
In terms of storage, the Aviator sports 18 cubic feet of trunk space, which bests rivals such as the BMW X5 and the
Cadillac
XT6.

Technology

Tech-savvy drivers will appreciate the Aviator’s bounty of digital gizmos, including its standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
In terms of safety, a generous amount of driver-assist technology comes built in, including Lincoln’s Co-Pilot360 Safety system, which includes the following standard features:
  • Forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist
  • Lane-centering assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automated parking assistance
Of course, don’t forget an easy-to-use climate control system as well as a smartphone Bluetooth signal that can lock and unlock the Aviator Plug-In with an app on your smartphone.

Warranty coverage

You’ll get a solid warranty with the Lincoln Aviator Plug-In Hybrid. The standard limited and powertrain warranties apply to the Aviator, as does a hybrid/electric components warranty:
  • Limited warranty: 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: 6 years or 70,000 miles
  • Hybrid/Electric component warranty: 8 years or 100,000 miles

Trim levels and options

The Lincoln Aviator Plug-In Hybrid comes in two trims, which make up the Aviator’s top two trims—the Grand Touring and the Black Label Grand Touring trims.
Both trims are well-appointed—the Grand Touring Aviator features:
  • 22-inch wheels
  • All-wheel drive
  • Turn-adaptive headlights
  • 30-way power adjustable seats
  • Rear door sunshades
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated windshield wipers
  • Heated and cooled front and second-row seats
If that wasn’t enough, the Black Label Trim gets you even more. You’ll have everything that comes with the Grand Touring trim, along with a power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, and a 360-degree surround view camera. This top trim also comes with black label services, which include pickup and delivery service, a points program, and other perks.

The bottom line

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator Plug-In Hybrid is a very solid luxury SUV. Its driving demeanor isn’t the most impressive you can get in an electric SUV, but it still offers lots of power and a smooth, quiet ride. Of course, its luxurious and comfortable interior is a big selling point, as is the Aviator PHEV’s plethora of standard features.
Is the Aviator PHEV the vanguard of futuristic driving? Not quite. But is it a stately, cozy ride that can bring its driver slowly into the future? You bet.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
