An EV Grand Cherokee SRT Might Be In the Works

The Grand Cherokee SRT already has a hybrid option, but find out why Jeep may be keeping its EV plans for the Grand Cherokee SRT under wraps.

background
Like most of Stellantis’ SRT models, the SRT Grand Cherokee has always been known for its massive V8 engine, something Stellantis and its other brands like Chrysler can rarely resist when it comes to high-end models. But there’s a change in the air, a shift that started with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that bests the current Grand Cherokee’s V8 engine. Is it possible that, in the near future, we could see a
fully-electric Jeep
Grand Cherokee platform?
You may have to wait for an electric Grand Cherokee, but there’s no need to wait for affordable

Jeep is dropping hints about an SRT Grand Cherokee

The current hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee actually outperforms the ICE-powered V8 Model, with an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
It’s not an uncommon sight to behold. Even partially-electric hybrids often outgun their regular ole’ gas counterparts. As
Inside EVs
explains, Jeff Elsworth, head of Jeep’s Global Marketing division, even suggested that “electrification is the way forward,” when asked if the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee would feature an EV powertrain.
In the same interview, Elsworth also stated that he had “nothing to confirm,” at the time being. Elsworth also mentioned that Jeep will try to hold on to the V8 option in the SRT Grand Cherokee for as long as possible, particularly in the U.S.—where drivers are notoriously wary of EV platforms.

What are some of Stellantis’ other EV models?

This might come as a surprise, but the Chrysler brand doesn’t currently offer any EV models to customers, and isn’t planning on doing so until 2025. The reasons why aren’t entirely clear, but as
TechCrunch
reports, it might be because Stellantis; the parent company to Jeep, Chrysler, and a number of other brands; really wants Chrysler to nail down their EV game before they start ramping up production.
The 400-mile range on the Chrysler Airflow concept is certainly impressive, and with new styling and a bold new take on EVs, shifting their focus to a new market could help Stellantis revive some of Chrysler’s (and Jeep’s) outdated models.
The only green vehicles that Stellantis offers are the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivan, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. There’s still almost 2.5 years to go until we start seeing Chrysler put out EVs, so hopefully the Jeep Grand Cherokee is just as awesome with an electric motor as it is with a fire-breathing V8.
