In response to this demand for more EVs, Ford has released the first-ever electric pickup truck for police use, the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV (Special Service Vehicle). Keep reading to learn more about the SSV with the car ownership experts at Jerry.
Why make an electric truck for police use?
Over the years, many different models of vehicles have become synonymous with police cars.
More and more, however, individual police departments have been doing away with full-size sedans like the Crown Vic or Dodge Charger in favor of more utilitarian SUVs and trucks such as the Dodge Durango, Chevrolet Tahoe, or Ram 1500.
Using larger, more powerful vehicles, however, is of course going to result in higher gas expenses.
All about the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV
The SSV version of the Lightning doesn’t stray too much from the highly sought-after Ford Lightning EV, but there are a few notable differences.
Ford has yet to release pricing information or a timeline as to when these vehicles might start showing up at police departments, but the brand does intend to offer municipal loan programs to fund the purchase, installation, and operation of charging stations at police departments.
