2022 Ford F-150 Lightning charging time and fuel economy

Driving range is just one of many factors to consider when purchasing an electric vehicle. Another is charging time, because what good is an electric truck if it’s stuck to a socket all the time?
The Ford F-150 Lightning comes with several charging options, with varying charging times. The average charge time for a Ford F-150 Lightning on a traditional 220-volt charging system is 10 hours. With just a standard at-home 120-volt outlet, that time climbs to 76 to 80 hours.
Ford understands that long charging times are frustrating and will offer its customers a 150-kilowatt DC fast charging system that can take the Lightning’s extended-range battery from 15% to 80% in just 41 minutes
Even more intriguing, Ford plans to market its own home charger, dubbed the Ford Charge Station Pro. The charger will essentially run two Level 2 chargers through one plug. Ford claims that the Charge Station Pro 80-amp charger will bring the Lightning from 15% to 100% in eight hours. The Ford Charge Station Pro will also allow the Lightning to function as a backup electrical generator for your house!
In addition to its many charging options, the Ford F-150 Lightning also boasts excellent fuel economy. The Lightning’s 4WD, 4WD Extended-Range, and Platinum 4WD options are rated to 68 MPGe, 70 MPGe, and 66 MPGe respectively.

How does the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning compare to its competitors?

Hummer EV. Let’s take a look at how these competing trucks stack up:

The Ford F-150 Lightning has only just started production, and we still lack some information on it. Still, you can start to get a sense of where it will land in the market.
The Lightning’s starting cost of $39,974 is on the cheaper side for an electric truck and is less than half the sticker price of the GMC Hummer EV. Its driving range of 230 to 320 miles is fairly standard, truly eclipsed only by the Tesla Cybertruck.
The Lightning’s charging time varies wildly depending on the method used. The fastest method will raise the Lightning’s battery from 15% to 80% in just 41 minutes, which is far better than any of its competitors.
How fast the Lightning can accelerate remains unknown. Online speculation posits that its 0-to-60 time will be a little over four seconds, which would be about average for an electric truck.
