Wyoming’s plan includes a total investment of $23.96 million over the next four years. This is good news for owners of electric vehicles (EVs) or plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), who will no longer need to do most of their charging at home.

Where to find electric vehicle charging stations in Wyoming

To find your go-to charging location, you’re going to need to take a few things into account. The first is the type of charging equipment you need—not all electric car chargers are created equal.
  • Level 1: Level 1 chargers are 120 volts, the same as a household outlet. These charge the slowest.
  • Level 2: Stepping up to 220 volts, a level 2 is your standard home EV charger, which usually gets you a full charge after 4 to 8 hours.
  • Level 3: Level 3 charging is commonly known as DC fast charging. These are often what you’ll find at public charging stations.
  • Tesla Supercharger: These are Tesla’s signature DC fast chargers, and the most common form of level 3 charger.
The majority of charging stations in Wyoming are level 2 chargers, but there will likely be many more DC fast chargers popping up thanks to the new infrastructure investment. There are 11 Tesla Supercharger stations in the state of Wyoming. Most are found in the more densely-populated areas such as
Cheyenne
and
Jackson
.

How much does it cost to charge an electric car in Wyoming?

One of the main draws of driving an EV is getting to save significant money on fuel expenses. However, charging your electric car usually isn’t free. Here’s how much money you can expect to pay to charge your EV in Wyoming.
Some of the level 1 and 2 stations that you’ll find will offer free charging. In other cases, you’ll likely need to pay per minute. According to Electrify America, it typically costs 16 cents per minute for 1–90 kilowatts and 32 cents per minute for 1–350 kilowatts. Level 2 charging costs about 3 cents per minute.
According to Zutobi, Wyoming has the fifth-cheapest average charging rates for DC fast charging among all U.S. states. They found that fully charging a Tesla Model in Wyoming costs an average of $4.14.
Sometimes you’ll be able to park at a free charging station in a lot where you might have to pay for parking. However, memberships are often available if you plan on charging at the same lot regularly.

Wyoming electric vehicle incentives

There aren’t any electric vehicle incentives offered by the state of Wyoming, but you may be able to get federal tax credits for purchasing an all-electric or plug-in hybrid car.
Part of the new Wyoming Department of Transportation NEVI program includes an alternative fuel export tax exemption, which means that costs for electric car charging will be tax-exempt.

How to save on electric car insurance in Wyoming

If you drive an EV in Wyoming, you’re going to enjoy plenty of long-term fuel savings—charging your electric car will be way cheaper than fueling a gasoline-powered vehicle. However, electric cars tend to be more expensive to buy and more expensive to insure.
The elevated cost of
car insurance for green vehicles
is partially due to the fact that the initial purchase price of an EV will be higher than its non-EV equivalent. It also has to do with the fact that EV components such as batteries and computer chips are in such high demand—and much more expensive to replace.
You’ll also need to factor in your location.
Cheyenne
is the most expensive city for car insurance in the state of Wyoming, but annual premiums only cost about 5% more than the state average, which is well below the national average. This should be good news!
But don’t let a little good news stop you from making sure you’re getting the absolute best

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
