Bowlus Volterra: a zero-emission adventure

You’ll know it when you see it. Featuring aero-minded retro styling, a polished interior, and modern amenities. While we’ve seen trailers incorporate pure electric power and other electric concepts, the Bowlus Volterra is likely the first of its kind to actually hit the market.
Starting at $310,000, the Bowlus Volterra is just over 27 feet long. Bowlus also stated that the Volterra is the first travel trailer to integrate high-speed satellite internet and an induction stove in the kitchen.
Forget recurring RV issues
—this electric RV is said to have the most advanced battery system in the industry. Its lithium-ion phosphate battery system can hold twice as much juice as the company’s Terra Firma trailer, at 17 kWh. And if you tow the Bowlus Volterra with your EV, you can charge your vehicle as you drive.
Also, if you find yourself in a pinch where your EV is dead, you can get about 65 miles of available range for emergency use if the trailer is charged. The Bowlus Volterra also features an AeroSolar system that houses 420 watts of solar that can be used when the trailer is in motion or at rest. The best part? No setup required.
To charge the battery from zero to 100%, the solar panels need about 46 peak-sun hours. While the trailer can passively charge when it's in use, owners should be mindful of their power consumption, especially when it comes to the A/C. An optional propane tank is also available.

Bowlus Volterra: minimalist luxury

The interior has the same floor plan as the brand’s Terra Firma and Endless Highways models. They share the same large bathroom, galley, convertible king bed, and ample seating.
However, the Volterra features a new, lush finish known as La Cumbre that offers throw pillows, drapes, linen duvets, a California sunset-inspired color scheme, and vegan upholstery.
The Bowlus Volterra can accommodate four adults and offers owners an array of limited-edition colors to customize the trailer to their liking. With a full bathroom and kitchen, the trailer carries 50 gallons of fresh water and 31 gallons of gray water. The Voltera can also be equipped with an LP system that makes heating and cooking a breeze.
The induction cooktop doesn’t create too much ambient heat, reducing the need to crank the A/C in tight quarters. The electric stove is also safer than regular stovetops.

A pampered trip more expensive than your condo

The Bowlus Volterra also includes over-the-air updates, built-in pet features, increased water capacity, and a backup camera.
The self-contained ecosystem utilizes Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink. This gives Volterra owners 250 Mbps of remote download speeds anywhere in Canada or the U.S. An LTE SIM card is available as backup.
We’re not going to lie, the Bowlus Volterra is at the pricier end of travel trailers. The RV starts at $310,000, which is $25,000 more than that brand’s other offerings. But, the off-grid innovations that provide maximum comfort and sustainability are hard to pass up.
