Many drivers value speed—if not for the sweet sound of the engine, then for the reliability and safety having a quick engine provides.
Consumer Reports
knows this, which is why they measure acceleration on every car model they purchase, then rank them within their respective categories. To do this, the ranking and review source uses a GPS-based device that is hooked to a data-logging computer and a display that’s mounted on the windshield. When it came to the fastest 2022 car in the compact electric/hybrid vehicle category, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime blew its competitors out of the water. This compact SUV can do a 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 6.3 seconds. Its closest competitor was the Hyundai Kona Electric, which had a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 6.6 seconds.

For starters, this is an electric car with incredible fuel economy—it has an overall fuel economy of 72 mpg, with 74 mpg in the city and 71 mpg on the highway. On top of that, Consumer Reports
also gave the car a perfect five out of five in both predicted reliability and predicted owner satisfaction. This SUV’s road test score was an impressive 88 out of 100, plus it got great scores in comfort categories such as ride, noise, front seat comfort, rear seat comfort, and interior fit and finish.
Where the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime falls a bit short is in its limited cargo space and its expensive sticker price starting at above $40,000. But, if you can overlook these flaws, the RAV4 Prime makes up for them in a lot of ways.
More on the other cars in the race
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is undeniably a great compact hybrid/electric car, but what were the cars it was tested against, and how did they rank?
As mentioned earlier, second place in this category went to the Hyundai Kona Electric with an acceleration time of 6.6 seconds. While this is close enough to the RAV4 Prime, other competitors took a huge dip in their statistics.
The slowest 0 to 60 mph acceleration times in the category were the Toyota Prius Prime at 10.8 seconds, the Toyota Prius at 10.3 seconds, and the Toyota Corolla Hybrid at 10.3 seconds. Interestingly enough, that means that Toyota made the fastest hybrid/electric car of the year, but also made the three slowest.
