If you’re
looking to buy
an electric vehicle this year, one of the best on the market is the
Polestar
2.
While the name might not sound too familiar to you, you’ve likely heard of the parent company, Volvo. The Polestar 2 is a creation from Volvo’s electric vehicle sub-brand. In fact, the Polestar 2 is Volvo’s first purely electric vehicle, and it has a ton of great features.
If you’re intrigued by the Polestar 2, the next decision is deciding if you want to purchase the 2021 or 2022 Polestar 2.

What is the 2021 Polestar 2?

Before we jump into what’s new for the 2022 Polestar 2, let’s talk about the original 2021 model.
U.S. News
reports the 2021 Polestar 2 has a handsome cabin equipped with an 11.2-inch user-friendly infotainment touchscreen, a 13 speaker stereo, and a panoramic glass roof. In addition to those great features, the 2021 Polestar 2 interior has USB ports, wireless charging navigation, dual zone climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. You can enter your car with keyless entry, and there’s a universal garage door opener.
Not to mention, there’s tons of safety features on this car, including things like pedestrian detection, collision warnings, emergency braking, a front and rear camera, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and more.
Because it’s an electric vehicle, fuel economy is great at 96 in the city and 88 on the highway, plus it has all-wheel drive and an engine that produces 408 hp. This first ever Polestar model starts around $59,000.

What’s new for the 2022 Polestar 2?

The biggest change for the 2022 Polestar 2 is the price—and it’s actually a benefit to drivers.
Car and Driver
reports Polestar has significantly lowered the price of the two by between $10,000 and $15,000, depending on model. Drivers can purchase a Single Motor 2022 Polestar 2 for about $47,000, and a Dual Motor 2022 Polestar 2 for about $51,000. In addition to the lower pricing, packages and add-ons can be hand selected by the driver, whereas in 2021 all packages were lumped together.
Consumer Reports
found that the fuel economy of the 2022 Polestar 2 was the same as the 2021 model, 96 in the city and 88 on the highway. But, we do see range before needing a charge rising from 233 to 249 miles between the years, which is a nice perk.
But, as
MotorTrend
reports, the 2022 Polestar’s cabin has pretty similar features to the 2021 model. The infotainment system is the same, as well as wireless charging, climate control, and more.
The Polestar 2 still isn’t compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but does feature Google Assistant. Plus, Polestar 2 designers focused on using sustainable materials that are good for the environment throughout the car, which makes it
one of the greenest cars on the market, inside and out
.

Is the 2022 Polestar 2 worth it?

Yes! If you’re deciding between the 2022 Polestar 2 and 2021 Polestar 2—the 2022 model is definitely worth it. While the brand might not have shown us incredible updates or groundbreaking technology, there are some small changes that add benefit.
But beyond that, the 2022 Polestar 2 is actually cheaper than the former model year. There’s no good reason to not get a newer, more updated model for less money!
