In the 2022 Ford E-Transit Van, the “E” stands for electric, and under the hood of this commercial Ford
van you’ll find an all-electric motor for power. While Ford’s latest initiative to turn all types of vehicles electric
is a huge step for the environment, it does sacrifice other things—in this case, driving range. The 2022 Ford E-Transit gets just 126 miles of driving range before needing a charge. But, is that one downfall enough to not purchase the van? 2022 Ford E-Transit range, motor, and power
The 2022 Ford E-Transit is fueled by a single electric motor that produces 266 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. It has rear-wheel drive and better handling than the older gas-powered version of the vehicle. No acceleration statistics have been released by Ford yet.
Arguably the biggest downfall of the 2022 Ford E-Transit is its range of just 126 miles. According to Car and Driver
, the E-Transit’s 67 kWh battery pack can be charged with AC power outlets or a DC fast charging station. Additionally, Ford will also give buyers of the van a mobile charger
, and the option to install a charging station at your home. According to Green Car Reports
, the van’s onboard charger permits a full 10.5 kw charge in about eight hours. But, there is a fast-charging option that allows the van to reach 115 kw in CSS-format in DC. The fast-charging option allows for between 15% to 80% battery charge in approximately 34 minutes. 2022 Ford E-Transit interior, comfort, and cargo
For the 2022 model, the Ford E-Transit is designed primarily to transport cargo, not passengers. Because the van is intended for cargo, it boasts features like rubber floors, plastic trims, and cloth seats. On top of that, there’s about 490 cubic feet of cargo space.
As Motor1
points out, the new E-Transit is identical in dimensions to its gas-powered counterpart, which means if businesses want to go greener, they can easily transfer and connect all their equipment to the E-Transit. Another great perk for drivers are two comfortable bucket seats up front. The van also features a 12-inch infotainment system with a touchscreen, running Sync 4, and Apple CarPlay. Pricing and trims
There are three different trims of the E-Transit van available for the 2022 model: Cutaway, Chassis Cab, and Cargo Van. The first two trims start around $48,000 and $48,500, respectively, but most business owners interested in using the E-Transit van for cargo transportation will likely want to opt for the Cargo Van.
The Cargo Van starts at just under $52,000, and provides the nearly 500 cubic feet of storage we discussed earlier.
If you’re considering purchasing the E-Transit, you need to weigh which is more important for you: a long and efficient driving range, or a green vehicle that’s good for the environment. If you frequently drive extremely long distances to transport cargo, the eight-hour charge time will likely be an inconvenience. But, if you drive shorter or mid-range distances, the E-Transit is a great start to making the transportation industry a bit greener.
