Moving is exhausting. The last thing you should have to do is lift another box.
Are you simply moving from one city to another within Arizona? Luckily, you can quickly change your address online if you’re a current Arizona resident
Otherwise, if you’re moving into Arizona from a different state, you will have to visit the MVD.

If you’re moving within Arizona

Whether you’re moving to the bustling city of
Phoenix
or three hours down south to the less crowded
Tucson
, you will need to contact the MVD to change your address. Within 10 days of your move, you can change your address in one of three ways:
  • Online through your
    AZ MVD
    account
  • By phone:
  • Phoenix: Call 602-255-0072
  • Tucson: Call 520-629-9808

  • No matter which method you choose, have your driver’s license or identification card on hand before you pick up the phone or go online. You will be asked to provide and validate information found on these pieces of identification. The faster you make the process, the easier it will be for both you and the MVD employee!

If you’re moving to Arizona from another state

Unfortunately, if you’re not an Arizona local, changing your address can only be completed in person at the MVD. While paying the MVD a visit is less than convenient, getting it out of the way will allow you to explore your new surroundings sooner. Plus, you’ll avoid any issues that may arise when you travel outside the state.
Before you leave home, ensure you bring all of the following documents to prove your identity
    • Proof of identity (birth certificate, U.S. passport or passport card, military ID card, U.S. Certificate of Naturalization, or U.S. Certificate of Citizenship)
    • Proof of Social Security number
    • A completed Arizona Driver’s License Application, which you can choose to print out and complete before your appointment or on-site at the MVD
    • Current driver’s license from your previous state
While all MVD locations accept walk-ins, you can be more efficient and avoid unexpected wait times by
    booking an appointment online
. MVD offices across Arizona are open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., unless otherwise noted. To find the closest MVD office near you, browse the list of
    MVD locations

Other steps for an Arizona change of address

While not as urgent as a driver’s license update, remember to update your address with the United States Postal Service (USPS) so you don’t miss any important letters from the government, packages, or snail mail from loved ones. Complete this
    online form
in a couple of minutes, and you’ll be set to make all the late-night online purchases you want.

How to notify your insurance company of your Arizona change of address

If you have driven your car over from another state, don’t forget that changing your address applies to your car insurance policy, too!
Updating your address on your insurance policy can easily be done through your insurance provider’s website or app or by giving your agent a call.

Why notifying your insurance company of a change of address is so important

Driving miles and miles to the Grand Canyon can help you fulfill a bucket list item. But if your car breaks down or you get into an accident on the way there, you could be left with a pretty hefty repair bill. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that your insurance policy is up-to-date.
Arizona requires drivers to carry three different types of liability insurance, also known as
    the 25/50/15 minimum insurance requirement
. If your insurance policy does not contain the correct information, such as your new address, you are susceptible to fines, legal costs, and even suspension of your license.
Your location is the basis of your insurance rate, so it is important for you to notify your provider of any address changes as soon as possible. On the other hand, if you end up letting your coverage lapse, your rate will increase.
Do note that failure to disclose a change in residence address can be classified as fraud, so notify your insurance company that you have changed addresses!

How to find affordable car insurance in Arizona

After you have updated your address with your insurance provider, you may notice an increase in your insurance rate.
With the combined cost of renting a moving truck, hiring movers, and resorting to lazy takeout dinners on your Arizona move, it is essential to save money everywhere else in your budget. Your car insurance will likely
only cover you if you move within the state
. But if you move to Arizona from out of state, you likely need to shop for an entirely new policy.

    Jerry
can help you find the best rate in your new desert home by saving you paperwork, phone calls, and, of course, money–Jerry users save an average of over $800!
