Will Progressive drop me?

I recently signed up for car insurance with Progressive, but someone just told me your insurer might drop you if they feel like it. Is this true? Will Progressive drop me?

Like any insurer,
Progressive
has the right to drop you under certain circumstances and with warning. Here are a few scenarios that might cause Progressive to cancel or not renew your policy:
  • You’ve earned several tickets in a short time and have been deemed a
    high-risk driver
  • You didn’t pay your premium
  • You’ve filed three or more claims within your policy term
  • You’ve gotten into multiple accidents in a three-year window
  • You were convicted of a
    DUI
  • You committed
    insurance fraud
While it may seem scary that your insurance company can choose to discontinue your policy, know that they are always legally bound to inform you of any potential cancellation ahead of time. Progressive can’t drop you without warning, which can give you time to secure a new policy or reinstate your policy and avoid having a
lapse in your coverage
.
Remember: most drivers are required by law to meet
state minimum insurance coverages
at all times. Letting your insurance lapse can therefore prohibit you from driving privileges, and increase your insurance rates significantly!
