How many Lotus Elises were made?
I’m learning more about foreign race cars, and I’m particularly interested in the Lotus brand. Can you tell me how many Lotus Elises were produced?

The Lotus Elise is a fine specimen of foreign race car with an impressively long production run. Manufactured from 1996 to 2021, a total of 35,124 Lotus Elises were made for the performance car market, primarily in the United Kingdom.
With so many years of production, you can imagine that the Lotus Elite came in plenty of variations. Several of these variations included North American alternatives that were sold in the US market, including the following:
- The Series 2 Federal Elise (2005 to 2007): Approximately 150 units
- Lotus Elise California Edition (2008): 50 units
- Lotus Elise Series 3 (2011): Production numbers unknown
After 2011, the Lotus Elise was declared a street-illegal car on US soil. While it would be pretty hard to get your hands on an imported Lotus Elise, you could also look elsewhere to buy a sports car. Just be prepared for some pretty high car insurance rates.
