Why were electric cars invented?

My partner and I were discussing the benefits of owning an electric car, and we realized that we don't know why they were even created in the first place. So we're just curious to understand why electric cars were invented and what problems they were hoping to solve?

Well, you’re in for an even greater discussion. Simply put, electric cars were invented as an alternate option to combustion and steam engines. It isn’t known when the first electric car came about, but our earliest record was over 100 years ago.
The first electric cars were quick to start, clean, and quiet to run. If you were wealthy enough to have access to electricity, you would love that they were easy to refuel.
Electric cars have made a few appearances throughout our history, but the concept just couldn’t seem to stick. Presently, there has been a rise in the production of electric vehicles, with their benefits becoming more apparent.
Here’s how things came to be as we know them now:
  • The first versions of electric cars aimed to be a better alternative to the more common combustion and steam engines, but the batteries were too expensive and didn’t allow long trips, so the electric craze didn’t last.
  • In the 1970s, the US began to see soaring oil prices and gas shortages which prompted the reappearance of electric vehicles as a solution. Still, the electric car couldn’t travel more than 40 miles before needing to be recharged.
  • Currently, carmakers have improved dramatically on the problems with battery efficiency. Environmental concerns have put the production of electric vehicles into overdrive, and we can expect to see a significant presence of electric cars moving forward.
It’s fair to say that a lot more people will be making the switch to owning an all-electric vehicle. If you’re one of those people, there will be other vital matters to consider, like
