Why is gas so expensive in Wisconsin?

I live in Wisconsin, and while I drive a small car, it seems like it’s costing me a fortune to fill up my tank. Why are gas prices so high in WI?

Gas prices are high no matter what state you live in—but gas is so expensive in
Wisconsin
 due to the high price of crude oil, increasing demand, refinery supply issues, and the
state gas tax
.
While gas prices may be high here, they’re significantly lower than in states like
California
,
Hawaii
,
Nevada
, and
Alaska
.
On average, drivers are paying $4.607 per gallon for regular unleaded gas and $5.520 per gallon for diesel in Wisconsin. Compare that to $2.950 and $3.099 per gallon, respectively, last year, and it’s easy to see why you’re feeling the pinch.
