Breathing new life into a space with so much history—what an exciting project! A typical stair remodel could cost between $1,000 and $2,000. For more complicated or elaborate remodels, it’s possible to drive the price up to as much as $10,000.
It’s mostly going to come down to the cost of labor and the materials used.
Updating your existing stairs will be less expensive and less time-consuming. If your stairs need to be completely removed and replaced, however, it could end up on the more expensive end.
The shape of your stairs will play a role, too. A straight run of steps is a simpler job, while L-shaped or U-shaped staircases are more complicated since they also involve a landing space and multiple levels. A custom-made spiral staircase is especially expensive.
Adding additional embellishments like carpet runners, elaborate posts, or railings to reflect a Victorian style can also increase your cost.
As you update your stairs, make sure your new home is covered by the right insurance policy. With
