What is the Illinois electric vehicle rebate?
After moving to Chicago, I noticed that the city has electric car charging stations everywhere. Because of this, I’m considering an electric car for my next vehicle. I just want to make sure I can get some money back—does Illinois have an electric vehicle rebate?

Congrats on your move! Starting on July 1, 2022 and running through June 30, 2026,
Illinois
is giving an electric vehicle rebate of up to $4,000. To be eligible for this program, the buyer must:- Buy an all-electric vehicle not to exceed the amount of the rebate.
- Stay in possession of the electric vehicle for no less than 12 months.
- Apply for the rebate within 90 days of the purchase of the electric vehicle.
- Only apply for one of these rebates within a 10-year period.
Acting quickly to purchase an electric vehicle can also work in your favor. Starting on July 1, 2026, the rebate amount will go down to $2,000. By July 1, 2028, the amount will drop even more to $1,000.
