What do I look for when buying a Lexus SC430?
I saw a used Lexus SC430 for sale in a neighbor’s driveway yesterday. I’ve always wanted one of those, but I’m not exactly sure what to look for when shopping. If I’m considering buying one, what should I keep a watchful eye out for?

The Lexus SC430 is generally a reliable vehicle, but look out for a few things when buying this modern classic convertible:
- The SC430’s front seats are surprisingly low to the ground. Make sure you’re comfortable driving it before buying, especially if you have limited mobility.
- Check out the gadgets. Depending on whether you buy an SC430 between 1992 and 2000, 2001 and 2005, or 2006 and 2010, the quality of the tech features and stereo varies drastically.
- Manual vs. automatic. Something’s not quite the same in a two-seater sports car if it doesn’t have a stick. However, this feature was only available on first-generation models through 2000. If you can’t fathom the idea of an automatic, make sure you get one of the 90s-era options.
Beyond these considerations, you should conduct the same measure you would with any other car. Check for leaks, take it for a test drive, get a vehicle history report, and ask the owner why they’re selling. The more information you get, the better your odds of getting a reliable vehicle.
